I think Vegas 1.5 would've been a more appropriate title since Vegas 2 doesn’t really do a whole lot more compared to its predecessor. Originality notwithstanding, the Rainbow Six series is still in the top tier of tactical shooters for me, and Vegas 2 superbly continues that legacy. While the single player campaign is overblown with action genre cliches, the huge multiplayer suite managed to keep me and my friends occupied long after our interest in Call of Duty 4 had started to wane.
As much as I enjoy the multiplayer of Rainbow Six and Call of Duty, the Battlefield series has always been a favorite of mine. I was initially skeptical of this console exclusive that seemed like it was taking a tongue-in-cheek approach to such a hardcore series, but it managed to come together in the end. While it may feel like a stripped down Battlefield 2, it trims the fat off that behemoth of a game and leaves some of the best parts intact. Throw in a clever and entertaining campaign with memorable characters and you have one of my favorite shooters of this year.
