Giant Bomb - a website about video games and the people that make them

Best of 2009

This list isn't perfect.  I threw it together for the Giant bomb user's best games of 2009 feature.  All I needed was to make sure Uncharted 2 was number one.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Game had excellent characters, diverse and bad-ass environments, stellar voice acting and all-around quality. What else do you want? Oh yeah, throw in a surprisingly fun multi-player experience with persistent unlock bonuses and weapons.

Dragon Age: Origins

2. Dragon Age: Origins

I played and finished this game in 45 hours. In six days. Yeah, it was good.

Resident Evil 5

3. Resident Evil 5

Beat the game on every difficulty level in co-op, maxed out all my guns, was fully enjoyable in it's entirety.

Batman: Arkham Asylum

4. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Didn't get around to this one until December. A true Batman experience - great writing, convincing characters, entertaining mix of detective work, brutal combat and exploration. The best superhero video game I've ever played.

Assassin's Creed II

5. Assassin's Creed II

A much improved sequel. More mission variety, a stronger narrative, a better main character, and a more interesting story.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

6. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Super short, super intense single player experience coupled with a refined multi-player experience from it's predecessor make this one game worth playing

Borderlands

7. Borderlands

Although the mission variety is lacking and the environments are pretty plain, great 4 player co-op and an addictive blend of leveling up and collecting loot make this a fine multi-player experience.

Demon's Souls

8. Demon's Souls

I think the difficulty of this game has been dramatically exaggerated since it's release. Anyways, an interesting Action RPG which at times can be difficult but completely fair. Defeating one of the numerous bosses in the game grants the player satisfaction not found in most games. A completely new, fresh take on multi player featuring a dynamic "hint" system and the ability to invade another players world make Demon's souls one of my favorite games of 2009.
