What were my personal top 10 games of 2012?

As a great culmination of the Mass Effect trilogy, this game is my favorite of 2012. Despite some controversies and a few disappointments, the game delivered an epic ending to the story arcs of the series, and featured the most polished gameplay.
XCom was a game I was keeping an eye on through most of 2012, waiting to see if it should be something to check out. It was only as gameplay demos started appearing that I got really excited for the game, and it panned out to be so much more than that. I remember the original for being a fantastic and brutal squad strategy game that I played a lot during the summer I was 12, and XCom:EU evoked the same feelings in its own way in 2012.
Fez is an interesting game in so many ways. I've been following it ever since I saw the first screenshots in 2007, and a part of me bought it just to see what it ended up being. After playing it a bit, I'd started accepting that it might only be a simple platformer, just for jumping around, spinning the world and collecting golden cubes. That might have been enough. But then the puzzles started appearing... and my whole view of the world of Fez was turned upside down.
