2024: Games I've Played

Starfield

1. Starfield

Played a second playthrough on Steam Deck. Once again, this is a pretty flawed game. Much like the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, it is undeniably a Bethesda game and the jank that comes along with it. And although it fixes some of the Fallout 4 jank (unclear dialogue options, poor graphical presentation, poor story writing in general), it does have one NEW flaw... and it's a big one. The most fun in a Bethesda game like this is discovery. You can be on a quest, but you stumble upon a POI that captures your attention, that then turns into a completely unrelated quest line entirely. It's a very organic "choose-your-own" type tale. In Starfield though the worlds -- even the habited ones -- are so barren that you never really get caught up in that. They even need to go to lengths to have "side quests" that literally are just there to direct you to another planet as you might never end up there at all. With that said, I found Starfield very relaxing... and it hits that hoarding bug that Bethesda games do so well.

Castle Crashers

2. Castle Crashers

Played to completion on Steam Deck. Still holds up, my daughter watched me play and loved the animal orbs!

God of War

3. God of War

Played to completion on Steam Deck. What a fantastic game.

Starfield

4. Starfield

Specifically "Shattered Space" DLC, played to completion on Steam Deck. Despite the ratings for this DLC, I really enjoyed this content. I think there is some of the best writing/quests in all of Starfield in here, and because all of the content is on a single planet, the sense of discovery is back. I really wish that all of the habited worlds in Starfield were this filled out. Even the side quests are really good! With that said, this content is VERY expensive. It was initially released for $39.99 (CAD), where it seems like it should have been $19.99 or $24.99 for the ~12hr of content this provided.
