Pac-Man Championship Edition DX

1. Pac-Man Championship Edition DX

I missed this game when it originally came out because who seriously wants to play another Pac-Man game? Apparently I do, as I managed to get an S-Rank on Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. The gameplay is so satisfying and has completely modernized one of the oldest video game franchises. An amazing game.

LittleBigPlanet 2

2. LittleBigPlanet 2

I'm sad I don't have the time to take in everything that LBP 2 has to offer. I enjoyed the story mode, and it's easy to kill a day just trying out other people's creations. This (and Dead Space 2) start off 2011 in a BIG way.

Dead Space 2

3. Dead Space 2

I love horror... and good games that control well. I've been sad that I've never been able to enjoy the Resident Evil series due to its controls, which is why the Dead Space franchise stands out. Eerie, atmospheric, and intense, it's one of the best series of games in recent years. This _is_ the Uncharted of horror games. I played the first time on regular, and the second on casual to just go through the story again. I might even play one more time, but no hard core mode for me... 3 saves through the entire 8 hour game is masochism, not fun.

My only real complaint is the finally boss battle -- the first time through, I think I died 20 times getting swarmed by the non-main threat. Once I came up with the strategy to get past it, it wasn't an issue any more, but it wasn't as fun as the original's final boss. As there are no real consequences from switching from normal to casual, just do it to get it over with. That's not something that's limited to Dead Space 2 though, Uncharted 2 had the same problem -- an otherwise phenomenal game with a crappy last boss fight. It's an excellent series that should definitely be in your library.

Torchlight

6. Torchlight

I bought this on Steam a long time ago and just got around to playing it. It's definitely unpolished, but for a $9.99 game, you can't complain. My biggest gripes (playing through with the alchemist character) are balance. On normal, the first 30 levels were ridiculously easy, but on level 30-35, I died pretty much walking in the door until I levelled up. Area effects (which are usually weak because of the size of their radius) are some of the most powerful in the game.

Even with that said, I'm really looking forward to the sequel that comes out later this year.

Stacking

7. Stacking

I love Stacking's art style and premise, but it seems to be missing direction. I had to unnecessarily resort to the hint system to get started on almost every puzzle since the game does such a poor job indicating at least how to get started, and that seems overly lazy on the developers' part. Overall though, it was entertaining and I'll be coming back to it to finish off the remaining solutions I didn't get to my first time through.

Portal 2

8. Portal 2

Portal 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. Sure, it has issues with pacing and the story is a bit thin, but it's one hell of a ride, with memorable characters and one of the best endings I've seen in a game. Valve still knows how to make a fantastic game.

... and then I immediately played it again. :D
