Top 10 Games of 2013

During 2013 I went through a big JRPG phase, and as such I didn't have much time to play many of the newer games released in 2013. As with my previous GOTY lists I'm not restricting this to new games for 2013, but rather any game that I played during the year.

Showing 1-10 of 10 items

Lost Odyssey

1. Lost Odyssey

#1 - Yes, my 2013 Game of The Year winner is a JRPG that came out in 2007, what of it? I really loved this game, and honestly, I can't think of any other game that I played in 2013 that I enjoyed as much as this one.

The Swapper

2. The Swapper

#2 - As Patrick has often said, not enough people played this game; or were even aware of it. The atmosphere in this game is amazing, and some of the puzzles are really cool. I don't think I've ever played a game quite like The Swapper. If you haven't played it yet, go do that right now.

The Last of Us

3. The Last of Us

#3 - Seeing as this game has won many site's GoTY award, I won't prattle on about it as I'm sure you've already heard enough about it already. Suffice to say, it is really good and deserving of it's many accolades.

Sleeping Dogs

4. Sleeping Dogs

#4 - Sometimes it's really hard to remember how much you enjoy games that either came out, or you played early in the year. I almost forgot about playing this game in January of 2013, but after going over my Games Played list I was reminded of how much fun I had with it. I had the flu at the time, and I still enjoyed playing it; so that's saying something!

Tomb Raider

5. Tomb Raider

#5 - I was really surprised when I saw how few people included this game of their GoTY 2013 lists. I thought it was an excellent game and a really great reboot of the franchise. Did people not play it?? Did they forgot how good it was?? What the heck happened!? Tomb Raider was an excellent experience and as such it is #5 on MY list! I didn't forget you, Lara.

Guacamelee!

6. Guacamelee!

#6 - Another excellent game that no one seems to be including on their lists. The combat was sharp and responsive and it has a pretty great art style and sense of humor. It's a shame it isn't getting the recognition it deserves at the end of the year.

DmC Devil May Cry

7. DmC Devil May Cry

#7 - I gotta admit, going in I wasn't really diggin' Dante's look. But after playing for a bit, that was the furthest thing from my mind. I think the guys at Ninja Theory did an excellent job taking the reins of this franchise. The combat in this game is so smooth, and it looks excellent too. It's just a shame that so many people write this game off just because of Dante's looks; they are robbing themselves of playing an awesome game.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate

8. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate

#8 - WTF, right? I don't know, but for some reason I really had a great time playing this game. I played it on XBLA, so I didn't have to deal with any of the limitations imposed by the 3DS hardware. I know a lot of people don't like the Lords of Shadow franchise, but I actually liked it quite a bit and found this game to be a great little 2D offshoot. It reminded me of playing Shadow Complex back in the day, and that is quite a compliment.

Batman: Arkham Origins

9. Batman: Arkham Origins

#9 - Another game that so many people completely wrote off. Sure it doesn't do much in terms of new features (other then the really cool crime scene investigations) but let's remember what this game is building upon; One of the greatest, if not THE greatest super hero games ever created. If you have any interest in the Arkham franchise at all, you owe it to yourself to play this game.

The Wolf Among Us

10. The Wolf Among Us

#10 - I really like the Fables universe, so I was really excited to see what this game would do with it. This was my first time playing a Telltale game and I really like what they are doing with old fashioned adventure games. Now, granted there has only been one episode, but I thought it was a really good one and I can't wait for the rest to come out.
