I can't stop playing Hitman.
Fantastic campaign with a lot of fun moments and neat ideas. I didn't enjoy the multiplayer at first, but once I switched to the EVA shotgun and messed around with Ronin, I had WAY more fun and actually felt competitive in most matches; and that's with a controller on the PC, which I thought I could never ever do in an FPS. The multiplayer community is also much friendlier than the bigger shooters like Overwatch.
Doom 2016 does so many things right. The way it portrays the Doom guy solely through his actions and reactions, the environments, the ridiculous music, and definitely the shooting/movement. Shame about the multiplayer though.
Overwatch was the first game in a while that showed me that I could still compete and have fun in a multiplayer competitive FPS. Lack of a singleplayer campaign, the lootbox system, and the somewhat toxic community are the only factors dragging it down a bit.
Thumper is honestly amazing. I seriously can't think of a single flaw in this game. The difficulty is perfect, the gameplay and controls are tight and fun, and the atmosphere is fantastic. The fist-pumping thrill of beating some of these later stage bosses are easily some of my favorite "moments" in gaming this year.
Mankind Divided improves a lot on gameplay over its predecessor, and Prague is really well designed. However, I still prefer Human Revolution, mostly because I liked the environments of Detroit and Hengsha more. Also, the characters in HR were more memorable. Still, Mankind Divided is a pretty good Deus Ex, and I'm looking forward to the next one.
DS3 ranks right up there with one of the best in the series. The environments are fantastic, the weapons are fun to use, and the enemies are the right level of challenge vs frustration. The main complaint I have with the game is the multiplayer. Covenants are just flat-out broken for me, and summoning for help with bosses was an exercise in frustration.
Spirit of Justice is pretty much a must-play if you are into the Ace Attorney series. Most of the cases are a blast, especially case 5. The storylines and characters are well done, especially Apollo, who I've never been a big fan of. I only have two complaints: Nahyuta is hands down the worst prosecutor in the series. Just a boring, lifeless character with zero personality. And Case 4 seemed really out of place and probably should have just been scrapped.
There's so much to do in Stardew Valley, whether it's building up your farm, improving relationships with the townfolk, dungeon-diving, fishing, etc.. The only fault I have with the game is that it gets a little repetitive after a while. I made it to Year 2 Spring before I drifted off to other games, but I could see myself coming back when I have time.
I haven't finished The Witness. I probably never will, and that's ok. I had a really great time exploring the island, and figuring out the secret to each area (although I didn't have too much fun with the jungle area). I felt a real sense of accomplishment activating all of the lasers. And that's where my time with the Witness ended. Without spoiling too much, I went up to the mountain and solved one more puzzle, which led me to...more puzzles. Except these were puzzles I'd already seen before but more difficult, and not really difficult in a good or interesting way. And that's where I ran out of steam on The Witness. The drive to solve more puzzles just wasn't there anymore. Nevertheless, the journey itself was definitely worth taking, even if there were some bumps along the way.
