The Great PS3 Games of 2008

The second year of the PS3, started showing some potential, though the system was ways behind in the library of rival console Xbox 360, it had its share of exclusives that without a doubt will be remembered when this generation of consoles comes to an end. Some foretold it to be "The Year of the Playstation", perhaps more wishful thinking than a fact, but it was nonetheless a great year for the console.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

1. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

One of the best told stories in gaming history comes to and end (or?). The game does such an amazing job at picking up every single loose end and somehow manage to make complete sense. Some really strong cinamatic moment, that really moved me, some subpar voice acting make it a somewhat bumpy ride but in the grander picture it really doesn`t ruin it too much. A game and series that has already gone down in history.

LittleBigPlanet

2. LittleBigPlanet

LittleBigPlanet, might just well be my favorite game of this generation. A game with virtually limitless replayability due to user-generated content. Sony finally has its mascot, and a great a deep game to go with it. You could pretty much buy a PS3 and this game and you'd have content enough for years. Some of the user-generated content is absolutely mindblowing, while flying various genitalia I leave for someone else to enjoy.

Burnout Paradise

3. Burnout Paradise

The year started of with a bang. One of the greatest and longest supported racing games of all time would be released early in the year, and still stands as my go-to game as far as racing games go.

Grand Theft Auto IV

4. Grand Theft Auto IV

Grand Theft Auto made its long-awaited debut this generation with a simultaneous launch on both Xbox 360 and PS3, with exclusive content "promised" for the Xbox 360 which would not arrive until well into 2009. A rock-solid GTA game, perhaps not my favorite in the series, but it had many of the classic moments that only GTA-games can randomly create, un/intensionally.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty

5. Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty

Although its mostly meant as a hold-me-over for the next game in the series it showed that they had perfected the Ratchet & Clank formula, and seriously improved on the story-telling, which was a little less engaging in the previous game.

Dead Space

6. Dead Space

This survival-horror game really came out of nowhere for me personally. Bringing some badly needed "fresh" air (what?) into the genre, a really solid game that for me marked a shift in opinion on the big evil EA, that in 2008 started to put some effort into new franchises.

Resistance 2

7. Resistance 2

Resistance had come a long way from the decent launch title. The singleplayer is colorful and epic, generic, but that the same time fairly enjoyable, the multiplayer really shines, with a really fleshed out roster of online modes which gave the game a good run.

Prince of Persia

8. Prince of Persia

Return of the franchise that made its huge return last generation. This time in a cel-shaded fashion, breathtaking visuals and especially the first times you bring color back into the world (thats getting to be a pretty tiresome theme by now isn't it?). The free-running could have been a little bit more engaging and the game could use a ramp up in difficulty but as a whole its an experience I'm glad i didn't miss out on.

Mirror's Edge

9. Mirror's Edge

Mirrors Edge was one of those games that I liked purely for the potential and initiative it showed. It tried to do something new, sometimes it was fast paced and exilirating action but at other times is was just a flawed attempt. The story was utter crapola, but somehow, as a whole this game is enjoyable and worth checking out.
