Overview
Tyranitar is a Rock and Dark-type Pokémon. It was first introduced in the video game set
Pokémon Gold & Silver. Tyranitar made its first appearance into the anime series in the 4th movie of the series titled "Pokémon 4ever - Celebi: Voice of the Forest." It appears as a Pokémon enslaved by the Iron-Masked Marauder using the new concept of the
Dark Ball. Tyranitar's Rock-type characteristics make Fire, Flying, Poison, and Normal-type moves only half as effective. Its Dark-type reduces Dark and Ghost-type moves by 50%, and makes it completely immune to Psychic-type moves. Conversely, Tyranitar's Rock-type is weak to attacks of Grass, Water, Steel, and Ground-types, which all inflict double their normal damage on it. Its Dark-type side is weak against Bug types. And most importantly, the combination of Rock and Dark types gives Tyranitar a significant disadvantage against Fighting-type attacks, which do four times their normal damage.
Regardless of its crippling weakness against Fighting-type moves, as well as a number over other weaknesses, its unusually high stats and impressive move-pool, make Tyranitar well-known as the second pseudo-legendary Pokémon (the first being
Dragonite, and later
Salamence,
Metagross, and
Garchomp).
Evolution
