Plot

The Park is set in Atlantic Island Park after dark. Lorraine has lost her son, Callum, and must traverse the park in order to find him. Atlantic Island Park is on Solomon Island, off the coast of Maine, from the MMO The Secret World (Game). The amusement park itself can also be seen in The Secret World as a location in which the player can complete quests.

Gameplay

The Park is a first person exploration adventure game where the players interaction with the environment is limited to finding documents to read, listening to the soliloquies that Lorraine will sometimes give as you walk, and riding creepy amusement park rides. It is a game mainly focused on storytelling so there is no combat and very little in the way of puzzles. As Lorraine, the player is mainly tasked with moving forward, and discovering items that explain the story further while Lorraine occasionally gives her own backstory. The player can also have Lorraine call out for her son which gives a slight hint as to which direction you should go if you are lost.

Development

The Park was developed as part of a new business strategy by Funcom. After announcing financial troubles in August of 2015 they then announced they wanted to look into developing small scale, experimental, and innovative titles with their existing IP. They would do this in order to develop their team's ability to create different kinds of games as well as gauge market interests. The Park is the first title with this idea in mind. The Park released on PS4 and XBOX one on May 5, 2016. It was Funcom's first console release since Dreamfall: The Longest Journey on the original XBOX in 2006.
