Better than its Wii counterpart, but still a mediocre Zelda game. 0

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD (SS) has the unpleasant position of being a Zelda game on the same platform as that other Zelda game on the Switch… Link’s Awakening. I’m kidding of course, it’s Breath of the Wild (BotW). For players who already own or have any interest in owning a Switch, there is no contest which Zelda game is better. BotW is one of the most innovative open world games of the generation. SS in comparison is an HD remake of a ten year old game mali...

    Worth a try. 1

First of all, this is a great game. It still has room for improvement and one can only notice that it was probably going to be bigger but was cut short... On the plus side, the stuff that made it into the game was mostly well done and very polished in typical Nintendo fashion.I had mixed results with the motion controls: they take some time to get used to, but once you do, they worked mostly well and there are parts where it's truly satisfying to slash, stab, parry, spin and finalize most enemie...

    Review of Skyward Sword 0

I enjoyed this game immensely and found it to be my favorite game experience of 2011, despite an unusually amazing year chock full of great experiences. It is a game which stuck with me for a long time after I finished it, and even today I find myself humming one of the songs or thinking of one of the dungeons from the game when I least expect it. People criticized the game in respect to fetch quests and structure at the time. I think that might be a short-sighted complaint because I think the s...

Another solid installment, introduces new ideas 0

Nintendo returns to the Legend of Zelda series once again with Skyward Sword, and like every second game in the series this one does away with the usual antagonist and setting. Nintendo has managed to create a fairly unique world for the game, with childhood friends Link and Zelda living in the floating island town called Skyloft. The game begins as Link is about to compete in an annual competition to see who will become the town’s next knight.Thankfully there are fewer tutorials to work through...

Skyward Sword Overrun With Minor Problems 1

The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword was a big disappointment to me. The idea of it and the possibility of a new Zelda game that was supposedly going to fix all the problems from Twilight Princess made me excited. I pre-ordered the game with high hopes just after playing Ocarina of Time 3D.When I finally started playing the game, the charm, story, and the fresh, new gameplay had me hooked. I was very satisfied, for a while. Soon the gameplay got old. The motion controls became annoying to use in th...

Onward and upward, but where do we go from here? 1

This console generation has not been kind to the Legend of Zelda series. Often considered to be one of the most beloved console gaming franchises of all time, that legacy has been tarnished in the years since cult classic The Wind Waker released on the Gamecube in 2003. In many ways, Zelda has become a victim of its own success; trying to please all of its fans, yet failing to fully satisfy any of them. Each installment tweaks the basic formula to some degree, but the main architecture of every ...

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Review 0

If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. This must have been Nintendo's thinking when making Skyward Sword, arguably the most convincing case for motion controls in a 'traditional' game yet, though that isn't saying a whole lot. While games like Mario Galaxy have already incorporated motion controls to a degree, they haven't really been crucial to the experience in the same way as they are to Skyward Sword. As everyone surely knows by now, Link swings his sword almost identi...

Master, there is a 85% chance you will enjoy this game 0

Like many of us, I’ve been a long standing fan of the Zelda franchise, and have eagerly awaited its newest entry. And while a few things don’t hold up as well as they could, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword proves to be another fantastic game, and is well worth investing in for both fans of the series and adventure lovers alike. The most immediately striking thing about Skyward Sword is its presentation, which is simply beautiful. The art style combines the whimsical charm of Wind Waker with th...

A game in need of an editor. 0

I'm not an eloquent writer but I have to cleanse myself of this game by writing some disjointed thoughts about its good and many bad qualities. The Bad:-The game uses every opportunity it can to pull you out of the experience. You'll be watching little clips of nearly every item you pick up or grab from a chest. You'll also get little clips spelling out every "puzzle" you solve or switch you activate. Push a log over a ledge to let you access an area more quickly in the future? Enjoy a 5 second c...

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Review 0

This has to be one of the more complete Zelda games I've ever played. You're going to start in a city named Skyloft, a city somehow suspended above to clouds, the ground has long since be forgotten. You'll enter in on the day of the Festival of the Goddess, and of course Zelda is the main star. Well something happens and Zelda gets sucked down to the world below, and this is where the journey begins. You'll have to traverse several different areas, defeat several types of enemies, and collect it...

    Still Annoying, Still Great 0

When The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is working right, it is a terrific game. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I've had a type of fun playing this game that I haven't had playing games since I was a little kid.The problem is, that sometimes Zelda still thinks I'm a little kid, which can be rather frustrating, since babying the player really isn't a fundamental part of Zelda. I'm an old man now (by Internet standards, at least), but I was a single-digit kid when the first Zelda came out. ...

A middling, but decent adventure 0

The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword is mostly the game that I’d expect it to be. You play as Link the green suited Hero, on his epic quest to save princess Zelda. This isn’t a bad thing; it’s just what has come to be expected from a Zelda game. What sets Skyward Sword apart from the other entries in this series is that it’s the game that finally delivers on the Wii’s promise of good and interesting motion controls. I’ve always thought that swordplay could be done quite well with the Wii’s motion c...

To celebrate 25 years of Zelda, Nintendo has made one of the best 0

2011 has been pretty hard on Wii owners. There hasn’t been many great titles released for the system in 2011, but it’s good to know then that Nintendo are making sure Wii owners aren’t forgotten this holiday season by celebrating the series’ 25th anniversary in the best possible way… with a brand new Zelda game. In doing so Nintendo has made one of the best games to hit any of the consoles, and also promote why we shouldn’t throw motion control away.In something that’s a little shocking, Nintend...

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword 0

The first regular Zelda game on a console in five years came out as the Wii's life cycle began to wind down to a close, perhaps too late for it to have a major impact on the gaming landscape. I think Skyward Sword is a really good game, and I certainly had more fun with it than I did with Twilight Princess. But Twilight Princess came out in 2006, and Skyward Sword doesn't do enough differently to be as notable as that game was at the time. People were hoping for Nintendo to really do something d...

A quality adventure, held back by archaic design and technology 0

Sales numbers aside, it is my opinion that the Wii has been a disastrously bad console. It has given us an endless supply of garbage, with a handful of good or great games that fit into one of two categories:1. Wonderfully designed games like Super Mario Galaxy that succeed in spite of motion controls and the Wii's crappy technology, and that would have been better on another console.2. Wii SportsIn some respects, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is the last chance for the Wii's motion control...

    Skyward Sword Review 0

I am a huge Zelda fan, I will just go ahead and get that out of the way now. Ocarina of Time was the first game I ever beat and I still go back and play it every year. I have beaten every Zelda game except and Zelda II and I even have my own theories on the "timeline." So what is the takeaway from all that? I love the Zelda formula and story, but also means I have very high expectations. Skyward Sword is a great game, it is fun, smart, engaging, and exhausting (in a good way).Story:The Zelda tim...

The Legend of Zelda and the Burger of Taste 0

Yup.Thrust upon us once again is another Zelda game, released at naturally the worst time of the year for people whom wish to do things like accomplish work, see loved ones or even play other video games. How long has it been since a non-Bioware, non-Bethesda game was released that was over 30 hours long? I mean a game where all 30 of those hours was dedicated to the main story. I feel like Nintendo dedicated Skyward Sword to my 12-year old self, the person who was only getting one game all year...

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword 0

I recently played this game concurrently with its same system counterpart Twilight Princess, and I think it's had quite an effect on my opinion of it. Either Twilight Princess makes Skyward Sword look better by comparison, or Skyward Sword makes Twilight Princess look a shitload worse. Or maybe, you know, Skyward Sword is just a damn fine Zelda game. Subject to rave reviews upon its release but a rather tepid response in recent years, Skyward Sword might not hold up to the perfect scores laid at...

The Swan song for the Wii 0

It's been 5 years since the last Zelda game, which got a tepid response from a lot of people calling it too formulaic and a "Ocarina of Time remake". Others questioned if maybe the Zelda formula was done, and a complete rework of the franchise was in order for the series to continue, and some people probably thought that the end was nigh on this series. Could Nintendo reinvigorate a franchise that has fallen a bit out of favor lately? Read on to find out!The game starts in the sky as we get to k...
