Extraterrestrials appear in many video games in a variety of styles. Sometimes they're evil, sometimes they're benevolent, and sometimes they're very similar to humans.
A hybrid of the Amnesia and Immortality concepts, an Amnesiac Immortal is an immortal who has lost his/her past memories. This could mean that they've lived so long that they've forgotten about much of their past, or that they may not even be aware that they are in fact immortal.
The ability to save a cartridge-based game to the cartridge. The battery is usually good for tens of thousands of saves, and made ridiculously long character passwords obsolete.
Games that let you choose the path you take through the story-line.
Dwarves are a short, stout race that appear in any number of fantasy games and stories. They are almost always depicted as short with bushy beards similar to vikings. They can also be identified by their love for ale and gold. Other common trends for Fantasy Dwarves include being proud warriors, favoring axes as their weapon of choice, and being gruff sticklers for tradition and honor.
Elves are a race found in a lot of games based on a fantasy setting. They are recognizable by their elongated ears and often live much longer than humans. Some are even immortal. There are many variations of Elves.
Experience Points are part of a character advancement system commonly found in RPGs. These points are generally gained by defeating an enemy or completing a task.
Enemies in RPGs that are visible on the overworld map and that are engaged in combat when touched. Examples include Earthbound and Paper Mario.
A heavily armored soldier in the service of a lord or cause. Typically a champion of good and a defender of the innocent.
NPCs, enemies, loot, and/or quests change according to the level or stats of the player's character.
A box, chest, or similar reward beckons you to come near, but it is actually an enemy in disguise. Sometimes can be difficult to differentiate from a real treasure chest.
A simple texture mapping graphics mode on the SNES that allows a background layer to be rotated and scaled. Many game developers used this to create faux-3D worlds and environments.
Characters controlled by the game for players to interact with, as opposed to player characters which are controlled by whomever is playing the game.
Games that can be played with one hand, typically using only half of a standard controller or only the mouse/keyboard.
Non-linear level design where the player is able to freely traverse the game world and choose where and when to visit certain areas in the game.
Third-party developers and publishers occasionally engage in the practice of releasing a title or piece of DLC on only one platform for any number of reasons. Sometimes these are permanent while others are only platform exclusive for a certain window of time.
If a person is made of metal and has circuitry instead of a circulatory system, then their game belongs on this list.
Games that have an open gameplay structure that allow players to interact with the world as they choose.
The concept of a character leaping forwards or backwards in time.
A viewable map that displays the entire game world. The map also usually shows the player's location in the world.
