A type of youkai, or traditional Japanese monster. Tengu are bird-like monsters who are found in forests and mountains, although over the centuries, their beak has been transformed into an elongated nose. Tengu were sometimes worshipped as gods, but are now considered to be at best nature spirits, and at worst dangerous monsters.
Tengu are commonly depicted holding a fan made of feathers which can cause one's nose to grow. They also frequently wear tengu geta, one-toothed traditional Japanese sandals.
