As a fan of the long running series, I was a bit worried when I first saw this game when they announced it. The graphics seemed not nearly as good as past games such as The Curse of Monkey Island. As soon as I played the game for the first time though all my worries were extinguished instantly. It looks like a Monkey Island game, it sounds like a Monkey Island game, it feels like a Monkey Island game, and it plays like a Monkey Island game. Sheepwood? It's Threepwood! 1
I'm sure I haven't mentioned this to the people at Giantbomb; I am a gigantic Monkey Island fan. I first played Monkey Island at the tender age of 8 in 1990. Although I was young, I instantly fell in love with the atmosphere, story, humor, and characters. The original Secret of Monkey Island series is a worthy set of games to make a follow up to. Tales of Monkey Island is another in a long string of successful adventure game series based on another license, although this one purports to have more of a focus on a continued storyline than a bunch of loosely connected episodes. So much so that at first you could only buy the whole thing as a package deal, although now individual episodes are for sale. While it's not my first adventure game, Tales of Monkey Island is probably the first one that I've actually begun getting into. Kind of a shame too since I always prefer a good story yet I ignore one of the main genres that focuses heavily on story.
