SpotPass
CONCEPT
Feature of the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U platforms that enables games to auto download video, patches, and extra features. Content downloaded over SpotPass is free of charge and separate from DLC available through the eShop.

Overview

SpotPass is a feature of online functionality that Nintendo introduced with the 3DS and later brought to the Wii U (Platform). Games that are SpotPass-enabled are able to download updates such as add-on content or messages at no additional cost. Such content is separate from paid DLC and does not require use of the eShop or other online store interface to acquire. However, some games that feature SpotPass content such as Fire Emblem: Awakening also offer additional content as paid DLC.
