Spectating is a game option for a player to simply watch other players playing a game without interacting.

Overview
This mode is most commonly featured in online games, usually when players are killed and are unable to respawn, they get to view the action currently going on in their absence. Some games allow the player to freely move around the battlefield using an invisible camera, such as the ghost cam in Gears Of War 2 or Free Look in Counter-Strike (Franchise). Spectator Mode is also available in single player games such as the Nintendo 3DS (Platform) Virtual Console (Concept) version of Super C (Game) which lets a second 3DS player spectate the first player's game on their own 3DS screen.
