Genesis version with spiffy new graphics and instead of the "shoot-through shield" system, the player's ship has an energy bar for shields.

Overview

Space Invaders '91 (JP: Space Invaders '90) is a remake of the venerable single-screen arcade shoot 'em up from Taito. The year is reflected in the title, and necessitated a change for the North American version after it was delayed to 1991. It is distinct to Super Space Invaders '91, which also saw releases on Sega consoles. Included in its changes are new enemies with new attack patterns, a power-up system which requires destroying the fast-moving UFO at the top of the screen, and a shield system that replaced the old barricades and allows the player to absorb several hits before dying - the downside being that a death resets the entire enemy wave.
