Overview

Sonic X Shadow Generations is a 2.5D/3D platformer developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the PlayStation 5 (Platform), Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One (Platform), PlayStation 4 (Platform), Nintendo Switch (Platform), and PC (Platform) on October 25, 2024. It will receive a release for the Nintendo Switch 2 (Platform), as a launch title, on June 5, 2025. A remastered release of the 2011 game Sonic Generations (Game), Sonic X Shadow Generations updates the original game with updated graphics and new gameplay mechanics, while adding a brand new campaign featuring Shadow the Hedgehog (Character). The story for the "Shadow Generations" campaign, set during the events of the main campaign, puts players in the role of Shadow as he is pulled into the Time Eater's anomalous realm, where he must grow his powers in order to stop Black Doom (Character) (who survived his defeat in the 2005 game Shadow the Hedgehog (Game)) from using the realm's power to conquer the world. The game is sometimes seen as a tie-in to the 2024 film Sonic the Hedgehog 3, with the Shadow Generations campaign receiving a bonus DLC level on December 12, 2024 based on a scene in the film (with Keanu Reeves (Person) voicing Shadow, as he does in the film).

The game features a new fully-3D hub world, along with several zones based on the games Shadow has been in.

In addition, the game received a post-release "Tokyo" DLC level based on the 2024 film Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

The game features a bonus Digital Deluxe Edition skin for Shadow that is based on his original concept design (as "Terios").
