Overview

Sonic Runners was a free-to-play side-scrolling platformer developed by Sonic Team (Company) and published by Sega (Company) for iOS and Android (Platform) devices on February 25, 2015 in Japan, and on June 25, 2015 worldwide. It was later discontinued on July 27, 2016. Combining traditional Sonic the Hedgehog (Franchise) 2D platforming with an endless runner system similar to the earlier 3D endless runner Sonic Dash (Game) (as well as the Bit.Trip Runner series), Sonic Runners had players controlling the titular hedgehog (as well as others from the series) as they foil the plans of Dr. Eggman. A year after the game's discontinuation, it received a sequel titled Sonic Runners Adventure (Game).

Characters

Each character had one of three ability types: Speed (allowing players to perform an extra mid-air jump), Fly (allowing players to float mid-air), and Power (allowing players to perform a dash attack). Only Sonic the Hedgehog was available from the start, with the rest of Team Hero unlockable by completing areas. The rest were only available by spending in-game currency (either normal or premium) or through an in-game roulette system.
