Overview

Slay the Princess is an indie horror-fantasy visual novel developed and digitally published by Black Tabby Games (Company) for the PC (Platform), Mac (Platform), and Linux (Platform) on October 23, 2023. Created by the husband-and-wife duo behind Scarlet Hollow (Game), Slay the Princess puts players in control of a hero who is instructed by the narrator to enter the depths of a cabin and slay a princess chained inside (a twist on the "save the princess" trope). However, all is not as it seems, and players quickly find that they have the option to deviate from the objective (with the aid of several voices in their head), causing a branching narrative with numerous time loops that alter the overall scenario based on their previous outcome. Along the way, they can try to understand the true purpose of the Hero, the Princess, the Narrator, and the overall world. The game later received an expanded update on October 24, 2024, known as The Pristine Cut, updating multiple paths while adding new ones (including a secret ending) and an interactive gallery to chart the player's progress. This version also received a console release for the PlayStation 5 (Platform), Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One (Platform), PlayStation 4 (Platform), and Nintendo Switch (Platform) at the same time, with the PS5 and Switch versions also receiving an upcoming physical release
