Overview
Shulk is the eighteen year old, blonde-haired, blue-eyed lead in Monolith Software's Xenoblade Chronicles. Wielding the energy sword known as the "Monado", he sets off to discover the reason behind the Mechon attack on his home of "Colony 9". Through the power of the Monado, Shulk also has the ability to see into the future.
Shulk has a very open and earnest personality. This is sorely tested by a tragic event that is the catalyst for his quest for revenge against the Mechon. Despite his single-minded pursuit for revenge, he always takes time to help his friends and those in need, which endears him to many of the people he meets. His three initial personality traits (according to his skill trees) are: Humanity, Integrity and Intuition.
As the wielder of the Monado, Shulk has a unique role in combat. He is the only character able to effectively harm the Mechon for a long period of the game, though is able to grant this ability to others with the "Enchant" power. The Monado also grants several special buffs in combat, which are intended to be reactive measures to special enemy attacks he is able to predict. Despite being the main character, Shulk benefits best in combat by avoiding direct confrontations and flanking enemies with strong attacks instead. He has a minor healing spell and some buffs/debuffs as well. He could be considered a jack-of-all-trades.
He is voiced by Adam Howden (English) and Shintaro Asanuma (Japanese).
Super Smash Bros.
Shulk appears in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS as a playable character. Wielding the Monado, he can shift between modes for various offensive and defensive capabilities.
