    Overview

    No Caption Provided

Shujinko is a martial artist in the Mortal Kombat series, and is best known as the playable protagonist in the "Konquest" story mode for Mortal Kombat: Deception. He is best known for his special ability to observe and wield the fighting styles and techniques of warriors he encounters, using mystical powers granted to him by the one who deceives him. His name is Japanese for "hero", "protagonist", or "main character".

During "Konquest" mode, he often uses another combatant's style outright, which is shown in-game by "transforming" into other characters. Once unlocked for the main game, he uses the Mantis and Shaolin Fist fighting styles, but all of his special techniques are direct copies of those from the game's other combatants. He returns in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, where he only uses the Mantis style.

He does not appear canonically in later games based on the series' alternate timeline. However, he appears in the Mortal Kombat X prequel comic book series, appears in an arcade ending in Mortal Kombat X, and is a "Kameo Fighter" in Mortal Kombat 1. He also has a "New Era" timeline appearance in Kung Lao's arcade ending.

    Story

    Original Timeline

Before the events of Mortal Kombat, Shujinko was a young martial artist training with Bo' Rai Cho. He was approached by an ethereal entity known as "Damashi", tasking him with adventuring through the many Realms in search of six mystical relics, known as the Kamidogu. Claiming to be an emissary of the Elder Gods, the spirit also grants him a msytic ability to absorb the fighting abilities of those he encounters.

It took nearly his entire lifetime to gather all six Kamidogu, leaving him with many adventures throughout the Realms. However, the quest turns out to be a ruse from Onaga, the ancient Dragon King of Outworld, who used "Damashi" as a puppet projection from beyond the veil of death to trick Shujinko into gathering the relics for him in order to become invulnerable.

Understanding this new threat he unwillingly unleashed, Shujinko gathered a number of powerful warriors and challenged Onaga, using the mystic ability provided by Onaga against him by combining the warriors' powers within him. He overpowered his adversary in combat, shattering the combined Kamidogu and banishing Onaga's soul to the Netherrealm. Like countless others, he is later killed in the legendary Battle of Armageddon.

    New Era Timeline

In the timeline forged by Fire God Liu Kang, Shujinko was a promising martial artist who trained under the arrogant Kung Lao. Although it is unknown how he gained the ability to copy the techniques of others, his lack of humility caused him to become a threat to the realms. Having his memories and copied abilities removed by Liu Kang, he was later re-trained by both Kung Lao and Raiden.

    Endings

    Mortal Kombat: Deception

With the power given to him by Onaga, Shujinko united the warriors he had encountered throughout his journey in the realms and absorbed their combined power to battle the Dragon King. During the battle he shattered the Kamidogu which granted Onaga his Invulnerability and was able to kill his now mortal enemy.

    Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (non-canon)

Shujinko's victory over Blaze allowed him to absorb the strength of all the kombatants. His new found power drove him mad causing him to kill all the other fighters and challenge the Elder Gods for control of the Realms.
