Shugo Takahashi is a game developer known for his work on Sega's Shining series and Nintendo's Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, and Golden Sun series.
He joined his brother Hiroyuki Takahashi at Sonic! Software Planning after the release of Climax Entertainment and Sonic's Shining Force for the Mega Drive in 1992. At Sonic, Shugo is credited as producer, designer, or writer on most Shining games starting with Shining Force Gaiden.
In 1994, at the suggestion of his brother Hiroyuki, Shugo opened the independent game studio Camelot Software Planning to develop games for Sony's PlayStation. He initially planned on making two RPGs in the company's first year, but he believed Camelot would be unable to produce them in time for the PlayStation's release window. Hiroyuki told him to make just one RPG and to make the other a simpler game. These games would be released as Beyond the Beyond in 1996 and Everybody's Golf in 1997.
When Sega closed Sonic and merged its assets into Nextech in 1998, much of the staff including Hiroyuki Takahashi moved to Camelot. Shugo handed over the role of president to his brother Hiroyuki and became the company's vice president.
