I was lucky to get into the beta right away. It's so damn fun. Despite lacking persistence it is more engaging to me than all the other multiplayer shooters that recently came out.

It totally needs way more modes and maps. Symmetra can build teleporters that work just like the engineer ones in TF2. Blizzard showed stats at Blizzcon that showed that teams with Symmetra were more likely to win than with any other character.

Yeah this is how I feel, I feel like it's a product that will obviously go into the F2P model but of course they would say they have no plans of doing that up front to recoup some money back for having worked on titan. I mean, I guess we live in a super cynical age of video gaming, but why are we assuming this? I don't think Blizzard is pulling the wool over people's eyes to recoup money from Titan...its not like Activision-Blizzard is a small company that couldn't absorb that. Besides "worked on it for 10 years" could mean anything, it doesn't necessarily mean 10 years of constant development.

It's fully priced multiplayer arena FPS in 2015 (2016). It's either going to go F2P or die in 6 months.

It is a Blizzard title a lot of people are hyped of, and not from trailers but from actual gameplay. If it will be supported right by Blizzard (which i don't doubt) this game will be here for a loooong time.

The only class that isn't represented in this game so far is the Spy and I imagine they'll try to put something in like him at their earliest convenience.

I don't really mind any of it of course, I've played 1000 hours of TF2, so being able to jump right into this game and basically know what is going on from the jump is hugely exciting.

This comment thread is really reminding me how little love Gotham City Imposters got. I guess the F2P PC version sucked but it's still active and fun on 360, I was bummed it didn't make the backwards compatibility list. I think there's an advantage to super-configurable characters over a ton of different characters (and vice versa) but this looks like it will be a more than adequate substitute. I'm psyched for this.

@jinoru: das true, but I'd say the added on part of there being champions with such varied abilities and roles makes Overwatch different from CS, quake and such where all players are essentially playing the same "champ", but ya, map knowledge and awareness is huge part of these games...

i guess TF2 is really the most apt comparison for Overwatch~

@assirra: Sure, it'll be around a long time. As a F2P offering or as a dead multiplayer title. Titanfall is "still around." Evolve is "still around." just, nobody cares about those games because they were full priced multiplayer-only focused titles.

overwatch is competing with f2p shooters on PC and consoles. the player base will start to hemorrhage as sales slow to a crawl, and f2p will either be introduced 5 or 6 months from now or the game will just straight up die off.

@assirra: Remember how people were hyped for Titanfall from the CoD 4 and modern warfare 2 guys? Yeah, that one didn't last either.

Multiplayer only games need the constant influx of people to stay alive. The only way to get that is to go F2P. F2P also forces the developer to support the hell out of their game to keep people around so they keep buying stuff. I'm not talking about new maps or new game modes, I'm talking about new characters and abilities. Without that constant support (something I heard in this thread Blizzard has promised to not do) this game is going to die.

I don't know that much about TF2 but I've played my fair share of FPS games and Overwatch looks like it has the exact same "game feel" as TF2. The way you aim and shoot, the way characters move around and bounce around when they get shot. It's not like Quake or UT or CoD or Halo or CS, it's straight out of TF2.

Man, it's a real shame that Blizzard couldn't afford to hire any of the brilliant industry analysts that hang out here. If they could they might someday figure out how to make a multiplayer game with legs. I guess they're doomed.

As someone with 800+ hours of TF2 I was partly kidding ... but they did nick whole character concepts and gamemodes out of TF2, especially the payload mode is a pretty unique mode that I haven't seen in any other game. They even called it payload.

My comment is not in mean spirit, this game looks fun. But the influences they had are pretty clear.

Sorry but that comparison is moot.

What did we see of titanfall before the beta? A couple snipits that looked cool but that was it. Once the beta came out it was obvious it would die very fast.Hell i predicted it on numerous sites. Now we look at Overwatch a game that is out in beta for a couple weeks now and instead of the hype dying, its constantly increasing more and more by almost everyone who sees it in action. Dan in the video here is the perfect example. This is not fake marketing bullshit hype. This is word of mouth and gameplay seen by people.

While this a more "casual" fps the amount of strategy with all the heroes/abilities/maps/heroes switching on the fly is quite crazy. It is easy to approach as a casual yet has a surprisingly amount of depth and skill factors for the the one looking for a challange. Btw Blizzard supports their game a ton even without being free to play so that is a rule it has to be F2P to be supported.

I've only played a little bit but I THINK the thing at the bottom left that Dan mentioned, that Brad didn't know what it was, regenerates your HP. From what I could tell it fills up as you do damage and drains over time and it drains to refill your HP.

I think there's enough differentiation in most Overwatch that the previous poster saying they stole TF2 wholesale is a bit much. TF2 itself has lots of tropes and stereotypical stuff so it's just bound to happen.

Man, sometimes Brad is so bad at picking up on game mechanics :p. On a side note, the character design/art style of this game is absolutely stunning. Every character has so much personality I love it. It definitely does not seem to be the tf2 replacement that I thought it would be, but I am glad that it is doing it's own thing. Needless to say I am super excited to play this when it comes out.

The reason you have to walk back to the fight in Overwatch is the same reason you have to walk back to the fight in Dota. This is a team based game with objectives, if you could just spawn instantly like CoD it would ruin the idea of gaining advantage on the other team.

It's supposed to hurt when you die so the other team has time to complete the objective, this rewards smarter play and teamwork.

@johnked6: That very problem is even present in at least one of the beta maps now. There's a defend this zone objective where the last defense point is literally right in front of the spawn room and every time that objective comes up it just ends in a really boring stalemate until time runs down.

Jeff was so down on this game and I never understood why. The shooters he likes just makes my head turn a little bit. He's also very down on Black Ops 3 though I find the Multiplayer way better than Advance Warfare's. I guess what I'm saying is that I rarely agree with Jeff on shooters anymore.

The ice lady is was closer to Anivia from LoL than the pyro. To be honest I'm more upset they're not adding things like perks or items from MOBA's. As it is right now, the game feels a tad flat.

If I had one gripe about this game its that I wish to god it was 3rd person and not 1st. All the amazing character designs and you never get to see anything but their hands and weapons most of the time.

It's not that big deal though.

Dan seems interested enough to go look up more information which will spill back to the rest of the guys for sure. Good quicklook overall.
