If one plays enough video games, watch enough television or movies, regularly browse web videos, or even listen to the radio enough on a regular basis, you may notice some familiar voices. Sometimes a game is aware of this, and deliberately points it out, by making a reference to an actor's previous role. These range from one line of dialogue shared between both characters all the way up to the character's entire personality being modeled after the other's.
These references are often times lost in translation. Sometimes a Japanese game will reference the fact that one of the characters shares a voice actor with a character from a particular anime for instance. The two characters may not have the same voice actor in English, or sometimes the anime has not been licensed in America, while the game has. Thus, the reference is lost to all but a small audience outside its home country.
