I guess you can argue about diminishing returns and how much new specs will really spur gameplay innovation, but yeah I'm ready, certainly in another year and change. I might not go out and get one Day 1 but the base consoles are getting pretty dated at this point.

I kinda wanted a smaller, portable model or a more a beefier one, so not sure which way I'll go. Probably the higher end one, though I'll wait to see just how much of a difference it actually is.

Still amazed they stumbled into such a gem the way they did.

Vaan is indeed the worst. And so is Penelo. Honestly Balthier and to a lesser extent Ashe are the only characters that leave much of an impression. I remember being disappointed in Basch's development stalling after such a good introduction early (admittedly it's been a long time so I may have forgotten some stuff).

I'm with you on Gambits. I get the satisfaction of programming a party that works well, and can dispatch trash mobs at ease, but having increasingly less need to interact in combat scenarios as the game goes on (outside of some boss battles) isn't exactly riveting. Course I prefer on-the-fly tactical reaction in general to grand strategy.

Edit: Oh yeah the audio quality of the VOs not being cleaned up is my biggest disappointment with the remaster.

I just hope we see something else they've been working on in between. If there's 8 years between TF and MP4 that would be such a bummer.

Personally I think last gen still had more stuff that hit harder for me so I'd still give it the edge, but this gen is starting to close the gap in the last year and change. And if we're throwing portables into the mix, well Vita was pretty great and the 3DS is no slouch, but that DS + PSP combo...

I don't have a lot to contribute other than I was 11 years old when FF VII, and could not imagine anything cooler at the time. Still has a infectious moxie to it, though I do find the translation rough nowadays.

Yeah I'm still not getting my expectations too high considering the lead translator and editor are still NISA people, but at least the lore should be consistent and they should be able to catch more egregious mistakes, assuming they give them enough time and input.

@arbitrarywater: I usually say start with the Sky games, unless the old presentation is too much of a turn off to you. Cold Steel 1 is a decent jump in point for the most part, but there's still gonna be things that will mean way more to you if you have that background.
