Chaotic Evil

"Some men, aren't looking for anything logical. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men, just wanna watch the world burn"

-Alfred on the Joker

The last of the nine alignments, we have here one of the absolute most destructive of them all. Chaotic Evil characters are utter psychopaths who indulge in random cruelty and generally go out of their way to be as evil and destructive as they possibly can, often times doing evil things simply because they derived sadistic pleasure from it. Chaotic Evil characters resent authority in all it's forms, have no sense of honor or loyalty, and are completely unpredictable. Simply put, such characters tend to be incredibly dangerous, and many are also incredibly sadistic as they let their homicidal and bloodthirsty tendencies dictate their every action.

List items

  • As a cross-breed between Orcs and men, they're really just more of the same. In fact if anything, Uruk-hai are even more mean-spirited and prone to violent and sadistic behavior, since they also like to bully their weaker Orc cousins in addition to their maltreatment towards everyone else. And as Aragorn himself pointed out, the Uruk-hai went to Helm's Deep with the intent of destroying Rohan's people "down to the last child."

  • A demon of the Ancient World that seems to live only for destruction and inspiring fear in the hearts of all who behold it.

  • While the monsters and Eldritch horrors of HP Lovecraft are often touted as being "above good and evil", and/or having motives that are "incomprehensible" to us mere mortals, Nyarlathotep is a dubious exception to the rule, being the most openly sadistic and cruel of Lovecraft's creations and with a love of mind-raping hapless humans into insanity.

  • As Kid Buu. His very first act was to destroy the Earth after all.

  • Taking Smaug's whole "I am fire I am death" bit to the next level.

  • Far and away the absolute most destructive, sadistic, and downright evil of all of Godzilla's many enemies, even cackling like the Joker during at least one of his many rampages.

  • Godzilla's other most sadistic and nasty foe, one who is also a complete coward in addition due to abandoning his "allies" whenever things start to turn against him.

  • At his most destructive and villainous, which is often. Remember that in his very first movie Godzilla was pretty unambiguously villainous, and he remained so until about halfway through the Showa series. He then became villainous and malevolent again during the Millennium Series, particularly the one Godzilla movie where he was the villain and Ghidorah was (rather bizarrely) the good guy.

  • As the God of War, this guy's pretty much the original homicidal maniac, and with a very bad temper to boot.

  • A serious homicidal maniac who in God of War III brings about the apocalypse and pretty much condemns all life on Earth in the name of completely selfish revenge. However many fanboys this psychopath has, the evidence is irrefutable: Kratos is a bad guy.

  • Should probably emphasize something that I think is actually rather obvious, but most major Horror Movie icons are Chaotic Evil. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that most all of them are. And Freddy Krueger is of course no exception to this.

  • And neither is this guy.

  • Or this guy.

  • Essentially the Joker if he had Captain America's job, the Comedian is in my book the MOST evil character in Watchmen by way of being a sadistic, trigger-happy nihilist and mass murderer. And a rapist. That too.

  • More or less the Punisher's equivalent to the Joker and being about as prone to acts of wanton, gratuitous cruelty.

  • An executioner who loves his job way too much.

  • A serial killer of courtesans and apparently an Italian Renaissance Jack the Ripper.

  • In "Hellboy", where he tries to bring some Lovecraftian horrors to the Earth and bring about the apocalypse because...because. He also fits this in the animated Anastasia movie.

  • Real-life example, given that his credentials include committing genocide pretty much on a whim. For whatever reason, he didn't like farmers, and decided to just kill them all. This also wound up causing a mass famine in the area because no farmers means no food, which in turn caused a lot of other people to die, but somehow I don't think he was really thinking that far ahead, or more likely just didn't care.

  • And here's another real-life example, who indulged in such self-indulgence and cruelty that the Romans turned on him and declared him public enemy number 1. Much like a certain other infamous historical figure he committed suicide to avoid having to face the music for his crimes.
