That's kind of cool, but Mirror's Edge is a lot better as a FPP...

@Jimbo_N:
I don't necessarilly see the trial and error element. I played it on the hardest mode with using runner vision, reaction time, the guide button, and ended up coasting my way through the game. I am hoping the sequel will be a lot tougher. Besides that, you took all the words right outta my mouth :)...

@hush404:
Besides the lettering on the front (I love the original font) I love the box art! I love how you made the back look just as good as the front. Not many people care too much about the backs of game cases, but you seem to pay close attention to every detail... Great stuff!

Our [American] society finds violence to be more tolerated in media than other things like substance and sexual elements. You'll find that in some other areas of the world that other societies will tolerate sexual/nude elements in their media more than displays/depictions of violence. It simply has to do with the cultural and social values of the region. However, I hope we can reach the point where we have a global understanding of particular themes of subject matter and what can be tolerated and passible media.

True. Shenmue cost over 70 million dollars to make, what with the whole project Berkley and Saturn development effort. When all was said and done, the financial expectations for Shenmue were impossible to be met by any game of that time. For Sega to even break even on this game, everyone who owned a Dreamcast would have had to buy two copies of the game. That is a sad and an impossible situation for any developer to find themselves in.

@AkumaX: I would not go as far to say that it 'spawned' QTE game play, though it did refine the concept to perfection. QTE was spawned by Dragon's Lair. However, you are right about one thing: Shenmue did revolutionize the concept of having high production values in games. Also, the FREE game genre is now truly an actual genre which is seeing a new original game under its umbrella because of Shenmue. Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain shows all the hallmarks of Yu Suzuki's ambitious genre philosophy. Heavy Rain IS an FREE game. I do not own a PS3 right now, which is a crime because I have wanted one since launch [money is tight]. This is the game that will make me buy a PS3. I just want more developers making games of this genre.

You are so right about Mirror's Edge not being an action adventure. It IS a first person platformer. I was beginning to think I was the only one in the free world who understood.

You put guns in your first person game, you're going to get an FPS comparison. Had DICE stayed the course and made this an actual freerunning game rather than having those lame combat sections, I daresay reviews would have been higher. And of course it's good for a game to be the right kind of challenging but this was not that kind of challenging. Jumping in first person rarely works and this game showed that. The only times I felt it really worked was when you could see her limbs and so it gave you guidance, but that was few and far between, particularly on some of the more awkward jumps. Also, to tie back in with your mention of the business plan: The game was marketted as being a parkour game. Not having it in some sections would be like having some unexpected adventure in a Madden game or something.

What about MGS 4? It had deplorable multiplayer. However, that was overlooked in most reviews. And though it is a separate mode in the game, it is still a part of the package. As for Mirror's Edge the focus isn't combat as all but two combat situations in the game are avoidable (and those two are melee oriented - no guns). So yes there are guns in the game, like there are in life. And like real life, you can pick up a gun, aim it, shoot it, and toss it asside. That's all that's needed in a game that is focused on traversing the environment in some stretches of fliud movent while being persued by heavily armored and arm people because you are caught up in some murder. It works for game that doesn't focus on it.
