Alias

Fire Truck

  • Smokey Joe

(Note: Smokey Joe is the name used by Atari for the less common single-player cabinet; same game).

Mega Man 3: The Robots are Revolting

  • Mega Man 3

(Note: The name Mega Man 3 is used on the box, title screen, instructions, etc... the only place "Robots are Revolting" is used is on the back of the box. Nobody is going to find the game under the current title in a search).

Going deep on this one, coming up blank after much Interweb research...

Commodore 64 game, early, possibly cartridge based.

You are a bee. Venus flytraps are growing up the screen. You drop honey into their mouths, and they shrink to the bottom of the screen. That's it.

1) This isn't any of the obvious bee-themed commodore 64 games that are easy to google (bee-52, etc)

2) That is literally the entirety of the game. Each stage gets harder, but that's it.

3) It's something like Honeybee, Bumblebee, or something, but there are other games with similar (or the same!) name that may be bee themed, but aren't it.

4) It's not the one with a maze, the one with trees that you're some kind of wasp, or any game that has anything other than dropping honey into venus flytrap mouths.

Help!

I bought this on the steam sale before GOTY based on a recommendation from @ltsquigs. Finished it in 3 sittings a couple of days before the podcasts started and was very glad I did. This game's got styyyyyyle for days and that final hack made me feel like such a badass.

ALL the style. Did you get the honey theme from the redline quest? It's super cool, with a honeycomb background.

Still bummed that every " it's " in the entire game is the wrong one.

It's a great game... but one thing keeps bothering me:

practically EVERY instance of the word " it's " is wrong. Seriously. About a dozen in the first hour. It's such a great game, but man, it's distracting when a text-based game has a constant basic grammatical error. Still love it.

@reverendhunt: They should use this opportunity to intelligently organize that section of the infobox. The platforms should be listed in order of release, it's insane to see a classic game pop up as a PS4 game first.

I'm trying to remember the name of a game that I've never played, but wanted to and forgot about. So these slight memories I have are pretty vague

It was, I think, an isometric/tile based rpg, with party members, that took place in a gritty sci-fi/cyberpunk setting, I think on some kind of desert planet (not earth). It had lots of different races and factions, atypical ones, I think lots of different types of mutated humans and cyborgs or something. In general, the vibe struck me as sort of Dune-ish.

I think the title started with an R or a P. One of the creators released it for free on his website to run through dosbox a few years back, and had a big retrospective writeup to accompany the release. I remember reading the retrospective, and really wanting to check out the game, but I just forgot about it.

That's very broad; can you think of a range or years, and a platform? It sounds like PC / 90s. When you say it had a lot of races, were those races you can choose as a player? Was it strictly RPG or was it a strategy-style game?

I think they tend to mention platforms on quick looks but on podcasts that definitely takes a backseat.

Yep, noticed the same thing. On quicklooks it's more apparent what the platform is anyway - but I'm guessing that the Bombcast (and Beastcast) is the way most people "consume" Giant Bomb. I mean, even when talking about new releases or upcoming titles, a lot (most?) of the time, there is no mention of platform. Even heavy gamers aren't aware of every game out there, on every platform. It would just add a couple of seconds to name the platform. And when awarding Game of the Year status, mentioning the platform(s) seems obvious.

For those of us that aren't fortunate enough to own a PC, XB1, PS4, Wii U, Vita, 3DS, etc... it would be helpful if GB crew would do a better job mentioning the platform of a game more often. On the bombcast, on the "what have you been playing" segment, someone will launch into a discussion about a game I've never heard of, and I'll have no idea what they're talking about. I remember this happening with Rocket League early on (as an example).

On the game of the year lists, this would be helpful too.

They're surprisingly good about mentioning the platform for multiplatform games (i.e. Jeff will ask "what are you playing it on?") but it's easy to forget that many (most?) people are doing their gaming on one platform.

Even if you can just google it (not feasible while driving and listening to a podcast) it would be way better to just mention the platform when starting a discussion about a game that not everyone is aware of.
