Overview
Praetorians is a real time tactics game that was released in 2003 for the PC and published by Eidos Interactive. It was developed by Pyro Studios S.L. The game is based on the campaigns of Julius Caesar.
Gameplay
Praetorians has two modes; A story-driven campaign with twenty missions, following Julius Caesar as he battles against Egyptian and Barbarian tribes; and a Skrimish mode, in which the player can battle up to 7 AI opponents.
Civilisations
The game has three playable factions, each with a unique set of troops and tactics.
Romans
The Romans utilise organisation and flexible formations as a means of overthrowing the enemy. They utilise heavily armored units such as Centurions and Legionaries, and siege units such as the Ballista and Battering Ram.
Egyptians
The Egyptians use a combination of religious fanaticism and advanced science to complement their range of military units. Their army is based around units such as priests and camel riders.
Barbarians
Gauls have the raw strength and greater flexibility of movement on different terrains. They employ guerilla warfare tactics through the use of units like hunters, druids and wolf scouts.
Multiplayer
Praetorians also features LAN and internet multiplayer. There are 16 multiplayer maps that support up to 8 players simultaneously. Players can choose from any of the three civilisations.
