The name "Port Carverton" came to be due to Don "Mad Carver" Hartley dying in 2009. He was a friend of the developers of Skate 3 and they wanted to honor Mad Carver by naming Skate 3's city after him. The city was named Port Carverton and there is even a statue in his memory within the game. The city includes three self-contained areas: University; which is full of wide open plazas and stair sets. Industrial; provides grittier, dirtier and harder to skate spots. Downtown; which is packed with cars, pedestrians and tightly packed spots and handrails.
