There are A LOT of shooters out there, and for me finding the perfect weapon is always fun. I'm talking about that one weapon that destroys anything and everything and when it's a pistol it's even sweeter. If you could make a page here on Giantbomb for "overpowered handguns" what would you add? Other than the random pistols available in Borderlands that do 900+ damage, I've got a couple I would put on there:
 

Halo CE Magnum

Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Desert Eagle

Dead Space Plasma Cutter

I don't know if you could call it overpowered but I love using the dual pistol combination in Left4Dead 2.

The revolver in Killzone 2 was beastly in multiplayer.  It was more powerful than just about all of the primary weapons in the game.

I use the Gold Desert Eagle and the standard silver one at once in Call of Duty 4 by picking the one I don't have up. It's fun! :D

Is the picture of the Halo CE pistol in the OP the magnum from Halo 2. Also Id say 92 FS from Rainbow Six : Vegas that pistol was damn good.

MP412 REX aka the revolver from BFBC2

I was a fan of the SOCOM in MGS1. 
Then theres Red from RES4. 

The silverballers from hitman?

I always thought the dual wield Desert Eagle in Max Payne 2 was awesome.

Ridiculous and awesome.

I was a fan of the pistol in Fear 3. In fact, I used that throughout the entire game. Such a fun pistol to use.

Resistance 2 was far from an amazing game. 
But a revolver with detonating rounds? Yes please.

The revolver from Bioshock. Not upgraded because it looks badass enough by it's self.  

Still love the Falcon 2 from PFD.

If you absolutely have to bring down an attack chopper in twelve bullets or less, accept no substitutes.

the scoped magnum in fallout 3 comes to mind and so does the alien atomizer from mothership zeta :D

where do you get that? I just remember all the guns in JC2 being poop....

• I'm going to mention Kyle Katarn's Bryar Pistol.  Because Kyle Motherkriffing Katarn.
• I also really liked the Golden Eagle from Duke Nukem Manhattan Project.  A gold-plated Desert Eagle that made it real satisfying to use with the Mighty Boot for badassitude, saving ammo, and health bonuses.
• Unreal Tournament 1's Enforcer is one of my favourites, too.  Worn handgun with fading green paint, deadly accuracy, an alternate firing mode that was funnier than it was useful, ability to dual-wield them, and it decent damage.  You didn't feel totally vulnerable spawning with one.  Oh, and the reload anim was minimalist but pretty cool, too.  Unreal 1's Automag was nice, too, but I didn't like its firing sound as much as the Enforcer's.
• RE4's Red9 of course cannot be forgotten.
• The Planet Eagles from Exteel.  Why?  Because they were oversized Desert Eagles made to be used by mechs, that's why.
• The Desert Eagles in the Max Payne games and Counter-Strike were fun as well.
• Many of the handguns in Borderlands were badassified with upgrades such as large blades, elemental attacks, regenerating ammo, etc.
• The revolvers in the Half-Life games were particularly satisfying.

Oh, and the Swiss p228.

Ahh, you beat me to it. That's my favorite handgun in a shooter, I wouldn't call it overpowered as in it laying waste to everything you shoot at but it is fun to use.

Also, what I like about pistols in video games is that they often are underpowered compared to other guns, which makes it that more sweet to take out everyone with just a handgun.

One of the best video games handguns that comes to my mind is the one from Half Life 2.

The magnum from Halo CE is the BEST pistol in any game. ever.

@blacklabeldomm: The Halo CE pistol was by far the best weapon in the game. Outrageously powerful and accurate to the point of being ridiculous. The game I would always lay claim to being best at, and purely because of this handgun. Great choice.  Edit: Obviously, those mentioning the handguns in RE4 are totally on the money. Broken Butterfly for one is a total beast.

How has no one mentioned the golden gun from 007?

The Revolver from Half-Life 2 was pretty awesome.

Was a huge fan of the custom 1911 from Metal Gear Solid 3. But that was more the look than the feel.

Also loved the akimbo beretta's in Max Payne 1+2.

Oh and the Desert Eagle from Counter Strike.

cant remember det name, but the magnun from re5 fully upgraded it kills everything and i mean everything the only thing that does less dmg is the rpg and again a handgun vs a one time use anti armor rocket.

I'll add Wesker's Samurai Edge to the slew of Resident Evil weapons. Wouldn't mind getting a real version of it. Resident Evil has all the best handguns.

I agree with all your choices, also all the pistols in the Uncharted 3 beta feel amazing.  Also, Battlefield Bad Company 2's pistols are all SO SO SO good.  Every one of those is my favorite pistol ever in a video game.

The revolver in Half-Life 2 was great, it sounded awesome and it sent the Combine flying. Also, the Red9 from Resident Evil 4.

The Mauser pistol from Red Dead Redemption. You could hold off an army with that, oh wait, you can.
