Greetings, GB.
Me, being the poor bastard that I am, I've sort of run dry on PC Games. I have TF2, L4D, and almost all of Valve and Blizzard's games. Those can only entertain you for so long.
So, in this thread, I would like some good ideas on cheap and free PC games! Indie games, like Gravity Bone, and other quirky random stuff is very welcome.
Thanks!

The Cheap/Free PC game Thread!

You should check out Battleforge. It is an RTS mixed with MMO elements such as trading cards with other players or doing co op missions. It is a full game that was originally fully priced but recently made free, and funds itself on micro transactions which involves buying more cards, which the game already supplies you with enough to keep interested, as well as the fact that you can trade gold you earn in game for points to buy new cards.
Battlefield Heroes is a pretty good one. If your not too fussed about looking unique its perfectly free
Savage 2 I heard is pretty decent.
BF Heroes is pretty boring quick. I enjoyed it maybe for a week.
Quake LIVE
there is something called <site removed>, but hurry, it may be going legit.

Battlefield heroes
Runescape is a good mmo but its more for the younger set and it takes a ton of grinding and alot of stuff is locked unless you pay, but even then its only 5 bucks a month or so
Battleforge is now free
America's Army 3.0, had launch issues but is pretty good now
also check out any of Steam's sales, and sometimes it offers a free weekend for a certain game.
Trackmania.
It's the free version but it's fun.

Obligatory Cave Story mention. It's like Megaman with some Metroid thrown in there. Free and awesome.
Try Spelunky, it's a free platformer game that's quite popular recently. And you will die alot. That's a good thing no?
Oh yeah, and Legend of Princess. Twenty minute game, it's basically an arcade version of Zelda.
I buy all my pc games on steam now, it's the cheapest way, for example grid is $15, you can get a decent game that way for half price all the time on steam.
The Suffering is free, and is pretty bad, but fun for a while. Sam & Max Episode 4(?) Abe Lincoln Must Die! is also free.

Vanguard Princess is a free fighting game, only problem is it's Japanese and all the fighters are women/girls

Time to hand out some Roguelike loving.
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is pretty alright.
I'm dumb and suck at it but I appreciate what Dwarf Fortress does nonetheless, certainly worth looking at.
Hasn't been officially updated in ages but Iter Vehemens ad Necem (or IVAN) is pretty fun.
Haven't much played it myself but I know a bunch of folk that like Elona.
I'm no purist - I prefer my Roguelikes to have some form of graphics, even the crummiest of tile sets would suit me fine and I haven't found any for Ancient Domains of Mystery - but what I played of it was decent.
Nethack of course is a classic and still one of the better ones for certain.
Straying from Roguelikes now, if you like Wrestling and you like management sims then Grey Dog Software recently released Total Extreme Wrestling 2005 for free, mostly to pimp their most recent Total Extreme Wrestling game but whatever. Free's free and if you dig management sims then TEW05 is as good as any - especially considering the price or lackthereof I guess.
If you don't already own it on your Xbox or some other platform then the PC version of N is free and also a lot of fun.
Of course Grand Theft Auto 1, 2 and Wild Metal Country are freeware. The only one of those I've played is GTA2 so I can say that ones pretty awesome. Can't speak for the other two but hey - free!
Not free, but cheap enough is Mount & Blade - certainly worth what they're asking. With an expansion on the way and an active modding community it's very easy to recommend.
I guess that'll do. If I think of anything else I'll pop back in but that's plenty of fun and free stuff. I've probably got more out of just Dungeon Crawl alone then I have many commerical games and I didn't have to pay a cent.
I really like Dungeon Runners. It's a free-to-play MMO that is basically a pretty good rip-off of Diablo II. I don't know if you've played D2 before, but if you have then DR is really, really good. Someone mentioned Trackmania and if you don't have that, you should. It's really crazy, although I don't know exactly how the online stuff works.
The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall is available for free download on the Bethesda site. I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard good things. http://www.elderscrolls.com/home/home.php
mass effect is $20 on steam
oblivion is a little more at $30, but if you enjoy it like i do you'll LOTS of mileage out of it.
EDIT: also like everyone else said, steam weekend sales are pretty good.
Quake Live, Battlefield Heroes, Battleforge....uuummm any free MMORPG's (www.onrpg,com), google search "home of the underdaogs" they post free games all the time. Dungeons and Dragons Online is free to play real soon. I'm quick to learn about free games so hit me up whenever you want.
While they're not the most amazing games ever made, I'm playing Soldat and Battle for Wesnoth. Soldat is a 2D shooter games with jet packs, tons of guns, and just plain craziness. Battle for Wesnoth is very similar to Fire Emblem and Advance Wars for the GBA, not sure if you've played those. Both aren't too bad, and they both run on my netbook while I'm waiting for my main PC to come in.
Look out for Deals on Steam, best advice that i could give you. I got a lot of good deals from them, especially when thy do 50% - 75% good games.
