From the Rock Band franchise, overdrive is basically the same thing as star power in Guitar Hero. The main differences are that the overdrive notes are glowing and not star shaped and that more overdrive energy may be gained while actually in overdrive.

Overdrive is a power up that doubles the points you earn for each note you hit for a short amount of time. It is very similar to Star Power (Concept) in the Guitar Hero (Franchise) series. The main difference is the ability to collect more Overdrive while using the power up. Overdrive is present in The Beatles: Rock Band (Game), but there it is called "Beatlemania" instead.
