Outback Joey is a Genesis-exclusive platformer that was also the pack-in game for the HeartBeat Catalyst, a peripheral that could read the player's heart rate, motion, and skin salinity levels and have that data be represented in the game in some way. Only a handful of games were compatible and the device itself is now fairly rare on the collectors' market, as is Outback Joey as it was never sold separately. The goal of the game is to help Joey chase after some poachers who took his girlfriend, Matilda, and a group of other kangaroos to be sold for meat. He can leap on platforms and kick enemies, and on occasion acquire boxing gloves that makes dispatching enemies easier. The player sets a target heart rate before starting the game to assist them with their exercise regimen: slipping above or below this target causes Joey to slow down until the player's heart rate is back in the designated range.
