Lilith, the Mother of Demons, has been awakened by Dr. Faustus as part of Hydra's plans for global domination. However, Lilith instead takes control of Hydra and transforms them into her brainwashed servants, using them to raise her demonic Lilin, and turns other important figures into her Fallen servants. With the "Midnight Sun" heralding the return of the dark god Chthon, the Midnight Sons and the remaining Avengers unite at The Abbey in Salem, Massachusetts, to resurrect Lilith's child who defeated her in the past, a person called The Hunter, in hopes that they can do so again before the dark prophecy comes to pass.
