Originally a carpenter named Jumpman, this Italian plumber has gone on to become the most recognizable video game character of them all, starring in a veritable pantheon of titles like kart racing and sports. He has been voiced by Charles Martinet for nearly 20 years.
Recurring figure in the Fire Emblem series. She's not a story character, but she often appears to present tutorials or suspend the game. On rare occasions, she appears as an NPC within the game world itself.
Luigi is Mario's brother. He began as a simple palette swap of Mario, but was later differentiated. In his later forays, he provides comic relief.
Wario is Mario's rival and doppelganger; a crude garlic-loving brute with an obsession with treasure. Wario's name is a portmanteau of the word "warui" ('bad' in Japanese) "Mario".
Bowser is one of the most iconic villains in gaming. His role as the main antagonist in the Mario franchise has cemented this King of Koopas' status in video game history.
Yoshi is a recurring character in the Mario franchise and has since gone on to star in his own games.
Samus Aran is the protagonist of the Metroid series. As a bounty hunter, she uses her armored power suit to hunt space pirates and other dangerous forces. She frequently crosses paths with dangerous creatures called Metroids in her adventures.
Marth is the prince of Altea, and the protagonist of the original Fire Emblem. He is a very just and noble person, both in name and at heart.
Princess Peach Toadstool is usually the damsel in distress from the Mario franchise. She gets kidnapped frequently by Bowser, though she's not averse to being captured by various other villains from time to time.
A pegasus knight from Macedon, she has feelings for Prince Marth.
The senior pegasus sister from Macedon. Her loyalty to Princess Minerva is absolute.
Mona is a teenage girl from the WarioWare series, who loves her scooter.
A very young female ninja who is the twin sister of Ana, and also quite bossy.
Lakitu has appeared in a variety of Mario games; from Super Mario Bros on the NES right up to Mario Kart 7. He is responsible for dropping Spinies onto the levels below, holding up signs and his very own start signal from all nine Mario Kart games.
A general from Grust, he led the invasion of Archanea.
Ana, a young ninja girl, is Kat's twin sister, with a love of nature.
Pyoro is a recurring character in the WarioWare series, usually starring in an unlockable minigame. He eats falling seeds with a very long tongue.

The Toad is a member of the Toad species. He is a loyal attendant of Princess Peach and often assists Mario on his journeys in a variety of ways.

A mad scientist from the WarioWare series. He invents many gadgets used in the games.
Ike is the main protagonist of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and an important character in its sequel, Radiant Dawn. He is also a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. series.
Spitz along with his pal Dribble drive a taxi cab in the WarioWare series. Spitz is always by Dribbles side.
An intelligent alien with a pig-shaped spacecraft in the WarioWare series.
Dribble is a cab driver from Diamond City. With his cab car there is no place he cannot go. Dribble is rarely if at all seen without his best friend Spitz.
The Original Donkey Kong made his debut in the game of the same name, where he tossed barrels at his nemesis Mario. His grandson, Donkey Kong Jr., went on to create a legacy of his own in games such as Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.
A Magikoopa and a well recognized enemy in many Mario games. Kamek traditionally shoots magic attacks at the player.
