He was one of the few employees to work in the small team that made Resident Evil with series creator Shinji Mikami. In 1998, he made his directorial debut on Resident Evil 2. He later directed the original Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe. He joined Clover Studio in 2004 and directed Okami, but after the studio went defunct two years later, he and the other Clover Studio members formed PlatinumGames. At PlatinumGames, he has directed Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101. He also wrote the story for Bayonetta 2 on top of supervising it.Additional InfoHideki Kamiya has said the one game that had the most impact on him was The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, calling it a "perfect, complete game." Second to that game is the arcade version of Gradius.Kamiya was very disappointed with the outcome of Devil May Cry 2, a sequel he very much wished to direct, but Capcom appointed Hideaki Itsuno, who was the creative director of the series up until present day. When asked he stated "I've been sad since Dante left me." For reasons unknown he has never been invited to help supervise or write Devil May Cry sequels. When asked on Twitter if he has ever missed making a Resident Evil game, Kamiya replied, "I've never missed it."On his blog, Kamiya listed the following classics as his favorite games: Gradius, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Castlevania, Space Harrier, Gardia, Star Fox, Fantasy Zone, Cybernator, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Snatcher, Sorcerian, Star Cruiser, Arkanoid, ActRaiser, and Falsion.
