Climb up to the top of Castle Hammerwatch in this fast-paced dungeon crawler game heavily inspired by the Gauntlet series.
Overview
Hammerwatch is a 2D high-fantasy top-down action-RPG developed and published digitally by Crackshell (Company) for the PC (Platform), Mac (Platform), and Linux (Platform) on August 12, 2013. It was later ported by Blitworks as a digital release for the Nintendo Switch (Platform) (on December 14, 2017), Xbox One (Platform) (on December 15, 2017), and PlayStation 4 (Platform) (on December 19, 2017). Combining the simplistic multiplayer dungeon-based gameplay of the Gauntlet (Franchise) series with action RPGs similar to Diablo (Franchise), up to four players (online or offline) can traverse up the eponymous Castle Hammerwatch to slay the dragon and earn riches. Along with modding support (utilizing Steam Workshop (Concept) for distribution), the game received a free expansion on September 16, 2014. Known as Temple of the Sun, it features a new campaign of the same name (where players traverse a desert). A sequel, titled Heroes of Hammerwatch, is in development. The game's style was also used for their 2017 twin-stick shooter Serious Sam's Bogus Detour.
