This is the single best thing about Halo Reach to me, I can`t wait.
Halo: Reach
Game » consists of 13 releases. Released Sep 14, 2010
A prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved, chronicling one of the most cataclysmic events of the Halo Universe through the eyes of a squad of Spartan super-soldiers known as Noble Team. It is also the last game in the series developed by Bungie.
Elites in Halo Reach are some of the best AI ever.
That seemed more like a combination of the player having terrible aim and poor decisions about how to use grenades and sniper rifles.
I did like that the elite chased him into the building, but to really be impressive he would have had to try and flush him out somehow instead of wandering in to be shot.
" So it's a video game? "I have on good authority that halo reach in fact is a video game
That was actually much more impressive than expected. He seemed to behave almost like a real human-controlled opponent.
The player had like NO aiming skill but the elite was a great opponent too.
I loved how he moved himself to cover in the back after the player started shooting him, impressive!
If he were smart he would have ambushed you, flanked you, thrown a grenade at you or would have fallen back to his friends to attack you as a group. From that video he ran left, then right, then straight and shot at a wall.
Conclusion: go play Half-Life or FEAR.
The Elite reacted to the fact that it was being fired at, it fell back to cover to then aggressively threw a plasma grenade at the player, slightly after he fired upon another enemy. The Elite pushed on forward to attempt to get closer to the player. It just generally seemed like something a human player would probably do.
Like has been said it does seem like standard Bungie AI with some improvements. It did react more realistically to the player, but it's not huge leaps and bounds above anything we've seen before. It goes down to the player being a pretty bad shot, to be fair. That elite wouldn't have gotten near him if he landed those shots.

I think that looked pretty damn good, I liked the way the elite ran way into cover, then got quite aggressive, using the grenades well, etc. People who are saying bad AI, seriously? When was the last time you played halo and started flanking enemies and all that jazz? Wait, you play pretty much like that elite did? Cool.
" @natetodamax: Well my comment was directed at you, I'm not trying to be a dick, but you clearly were, even if it was jokingly. So yeah, being a top poster doesn't make you immune to being called out, bro. "That's the first time I've been "called out" for anything in a looooooong time, and I didn't even do anything.
But I digress.
Having played a bit of the campaign at an event recently, I can, in fact confirm, that that's nothing compared to the real deal. The Elite AI in Reach is spectacular. Skirmisher Ai as well. Hunter is pretty good too. Can't tell much of a difference with Grunts and Jackals. Level I played had no Brutes or Drones.
I played on Heroic btw
Have to say that was more ferocious than smart, but it fits the game.Elites are described as being confident and a little smug about their abilities to kill humans. It's still better than what most games offer. The development of AI in games in general has slowed considerably compared to graphics that seems to be the only thing that matters these days. I remember F.E.A.R and Halo CE stood out of the pack because of the AI,but after that game after game AI has been stagnating and it really shows badly in cover based shooters.
Pretty impressive (pushing the player back into the room and then charging at him was surprisingly aggressive), but then again, if the guy had been a better shot or played more intelligently that video would have only lasted five seconds.
That was awesome, obviously if the player was a better shot that battle would have ended a lot quicker, It still doesn't detract from that fact that the AI was brilliant.
" @big_jon: The AI for one enemy is the best thing about Reach to you? "I'd say the top poster in the Reach forum likes allot more about Reach than just the AI.
Wow I'm surprised as to how well that elite flanked him and corner him into the building. It wasn't until it got close enough to where the player could just hit him, knock out his shields and shoot him with an easy head shot. That was the elite fault for chasing him into the building but the maneuvering ability of it was amazing.

I played some firefight recently at an event and I noticed some astounding AI from the elites in particular (I only experienced elites, grunt and jackals).
Seemed pretty cool. I like how it fell back to cover, then tossed a grenade to distract the player a little before charging out. Then it tossed a grenade into the building and aggressively ran in to close quarters combat against the player when it felt it clearly had the advantage in that small space. Pretty cool.
