Gundam Versus
The fifth generation of the Gundam VS series of games, featuring fast-paced team battles as players can choose from a wide range of mechs portrayed across the Gundam franchise.
Overview
Coming from a popular series of arcade titles in Japan, Gundam Versus was built from the ground-up to be played on the PS4, and is the first non-musou Gundam game to have an official localization and release in US territories since Gundam vs Zeta Gundam in June 2005. After being released in Japan on July 6, 2017, the English version of Versus was officially released on September 29 of that same year.
Though mostly known for fast-paced 2v2 battles at arcade cabinets, the PS4 release of Versus offers more options, while also streamlining some of the controls to give newer players an easier time to learn the game.
Gameplay
In standard 2v2 battles, each side picks their Mobile Suit of choice and has 1000 Points to split for their entire team. Each time a unit is killed, the cost of their respawn is deducted from their team's Points. If the cost of a respawn would exceed the number of Points left, the team loses. This means that a team can respawn a combined 2-5 times, depending on which Mobile Suits they picked.
In addition to the classic 2v2 team battles, Gundam Versus also provides an option for 3v3 battles, or even 1v1 matches.
Most Mobile Suits have basic melee and long-range weapon attacks that use equipment as they were portrayed in their respective anime, and at least three different ways to dash around the field, either to dodge attacks or close the distance on an opponent. In addition, the Burst System has been simplified from previous games to offer a choice of two Burst styles: Blazing Gear for more melee power, or Lightning Gear for more long-range speed and accuracy.
Characters
The game boasts of a roster of over 90 Mobile Suits spanning the entire Gundam franchise, from the original RX-78-2 Mobile Suit Gundam to the most recent (as of 2017) Gundam Barbatos found in Iron-Blooded Orphans. More playable Mobile Suits will be added to the roster as Downloadable Content (DLC).
