Introduces New Concepts to an Old Genre 0

I decided to review Gears of War because I'd like to add my 2 cents to the mass of opinions.Gameplay: This is where the game is different from generic shooters with the same look and storyline of GoW. The game (for the most part anyway) makes you use cover in order to survive and wait for open advantages in the enemies deffences. For almost ever surface and wall in the game all you have to do is press "A", and your character will immediately (an automatically) press there back up against the cov...

Gears of war has to be one of the most beautiful and enjoyable shooters to ever be released. I don't remember enjoying a game this much since ocarina of time. Enough said? Let's get started. Gears of war is a third person shooter which is set in the future on a planet called sera and shows off an innovative design with great visuals. Story. Gears of war is set on a planet called Sera which has mostly been destroyed by the Locust Horde they began there attack on Sera on what is known to be Emerge...

    Gears of War Review 0

This game is a one of a kind.  Marcus Fenix is truely one big badass! It is a def. must have for any xbox 360 owner! The multiplayer is very good yet still isnt on par with games such as Halo 2 in its online community. however that shouldn't discourage anyone from picking up the game.  The storyline is great and the graphics and gameplay are incredible. What makes Gears of War unique from other shooter games is its cover system and its 3rd person view. The game, unlike other shooters, makes the ...

If you own a 360, you need this game. 0

When I first saw Gears of war I was blown away. By its graphics, gameplay, music, just about everything. I knew that this game would become the next "Halo" for the Xbox. The point is. is that you need Gears of War in your 360 collection no matter what. I've rarely been this impressed by a video game. Gears of War--the single player campaign, at least--is a truly stunning and epic experience. The game is rated Mature 17+, so it's obviously not for kids, and the violence, language, and horror elem...

    Better late than never 0

I got to play Gears of War  a bit after it had come out and hoopla was over but it is one of the best looking shooters and just a lot of fun with it's cover system and I loved the single player game. I know most liked the multiplayer but I just am not of a fan of one death during a match, too boring for someone starting out after the game had been out awhile. But this certainly is a game that you can coop with friends and have a blast. I know I'm gonna give it one more shot with one of my buddie...

Gears of war a very original game. You play as Marcus Fenix. The story is very fast paced and interesting. You will find many feeling of overwhelming power as you maul through masses of enemies. The campaign leaves you room for a sequel. This story is carried with great support for online co-op. This extends the replay value to great extent as you and a friend can go through the war together. The multi player is fun, but the only complaint i have is that the weapons seem a bit to unbalanced. Gears of War Review 0

Gears of war was last years ultimate game of the year for the 25th annual golden joystick awards and no wonder. It's not really like they had any competition. Well sure there was god of war and guitar hero but they didnt quite match up. GOW did'nt have any groundbreaking storyline in the game, but that's because epic games did'nt show it. There was obviously a big confusing storyline no one really understood. Kind of like Halo until they realeased the novels. Same goes for gears of war the novel...

    Don't Believe The Hype 0

Let’s cut to the chase, shall we? What we have here in Epic’s Gears of War is nothing shy of an overly hyped brain dead gore fest. In Gears of War you play as Marcus Fenix, a big overly buffed badass, with an even more badass attitude and peanut sized brain. Fenix is all about brawn and no brains, which seems to be something all the characters in Gears of War share in common. The Game opens with Fenix being busted out of a military prison where some not so great things have been taking place. Fe...

Well what can I say! I’m pretty much sure you have heard lots about this game! Well let me sum it up for you in a one sentence… Gears of war is a great shooter with state of the art graphics that is hard to match but the story is crappy it’s like a 10year old boy who came up with the whole story and dialog of the game period. To say that the hype that built up in the weeks and months before this game was released was ridiculous is most definitely an understatement. It really was the game to have for Christmas 2006, and I know I was among the thousands of fans who couldn’t wait to get their hands on this game. Gears of War had to, like it or not, live up to huge expectations. For the most part though, the reviews praised and worshiped the game, calling it the “Best Game Ever”, among other lofty titles. And I must say ...

An instant classic worthy of it's hype. 0

Gameplay: There are a few duck and cover games out there but they just seem to be missing something to make it great. Well, Epic has found the missing ingredient with this game. The controls are setup to be fluently where it’s not too complicated to do what you want to do. You are able to duck in and out of cover by the push of a button. You can dive and roll into cover without even thinking about it. It becomes natural and almost a sixth sense. Graphics: The graphics are simply marvelous for th...

ProsAmazing graphics, still beat out a lot of games today Awesome weapons, enemies, and environments..Quite unique Great online, requires team work or you'll get your ass kicked. Very nice maps, and plenty of them to play. Also plenty of fun and unique game modes Good storyline. Not one of the best next-gen storylines, but good. ConsLike many other shooters, campaign could be longer. Could use a better matchmaking system, on a lot of occasions you will find yourself and your teammates getting...

Gears of War delivers like a chainsaw gun to the face. 0

One of the X-Box 360's standout titles, Gears of War hits you like a chainsaw gun to the face and doesn't relent from start to finish. Players take control of bulky military man Marcus Fenix and tear through a world in chaos in an seemingly futile effort to destroy the monstrous Locust horde. Despite difficulty levels that fluctuate throughout the game, Gears of War is a classic that you should not skip out on if your idea of a good time is splattering the blood of your enemies all over the pave...

    Amazing Game! 0

This has to be one the greatest games i have ever played. It is very fun as well as competitive. It is a fast paced game in which you do not respawn in most game modes (Warzone, Execution, Assassination). However, the Annex game mode allows respawns so different kinds of gamers can find their place in Gears of War. The only complaints that I have about the game are that it seems to more lag in online play than most other games, which allows a vast amount of glitches. All in all, Gears of War is ...

Gears of War (Xbox 360) …Time to put the gears in motion So I’ve finally ranked up at least 12 hours in Gears of War and I’d say it’s about time I let you all know just how good this game is and if it’s worth all the acclaim it has received. After going through the story mode and playing a good amount of hours online, I’m fairly confident in saying that Gears of War is probably one of the top 3 games on the 360 and certainly one of the most enjoyable shooters of all time. Of course, it all c...

Gears is both a refreshing change of pace from Epic -- who have been accused in the past of making pretty games that sell Engines and don't offer anything to PLAY -- and a realization and an extension of the core elements that made their previous titles such fun to blast away in. They still deliver on fast pacing, gripping moments, great "feel" of combat and shooting and amazing graphics. One of the top 3 experiences I've had in a console shooter ever. Easily....

...But Gears of War was one of the most entertaining games I have ever played, and really brings third person shooters to my attention.I'm a die-hard First-Person Shooter Fanboy, and when I first picked up Gears, I really thought it'd be another "Brute Force". [An entertaining, but repetitive TPS for the original Xbox].Upon only an hour of gameplay, I deleted my save file, and called over my bud to play with me. Gears of War...Holy Crap 0

Gears of War is a game that whose hype and pre-orders lived up to that of Halo 2. I personally believe that Gears would have sold tons of copies even if it had sucked, just because of the hype and pre-orders. But we don’t have to worry about that, because it definitely lives up to the hype and is easily the best shooter and one of the best overall games for the Xbox 360. But is it the 360’s killer app? I’m not sure, but it is definitely one heck of a game! Now let’s get the boring technical stuff...

A Warning: Before playing this game, prepare to hardly ever experience a game this great again. Ever.    Gears of War was hyped in every gaming magazine and on every gaming website known to man. And it was one of those rare games that did not simply live up to the hype. It far exceeded the hype. And for good reason. The previously unheard of Epic Games has created an epic game in every sense of the word. Gears is no masterpiece, it is a holy tome of gaming.     In the future, angels will sing of...

Emergence day has come. Epic Game’s long awaited and mega-hyped “Gears of War” has hit the Xbox 360. And not only as an exclusive title, but as the best game yet to be released on the console.             Taking place in the fictional world known as Sera, an alien species of unknown origin, the Locust, have emerged and begun destroying everything human. As humanity teeters on the brink of annihilation, you take control of Marcus Fenix, a ex-soldier labeled traitor under the COG (Coa...

This game was truly awe-inspiring, and did wonders considering it was a fresh IP at the time. The game took many simple premises like those of an over the shoulder shooter, and the ability to use cover and expanded on them to a point where they were so intuitive and unique that they are now considered "Gears Mechanics". The multiplayer is adds a new atmosphere to the online shooter genre, and is a refreshingly intense team-based experience....

The highly anticipated XBOX 360 title from Epic Games, Gears of War, is an epic (pun intended) ride of pure adrenaline and cinematic genius. This third person shooter follows a single day in the life of a solider named Marcus Fenix and his comrade Dom. Their goal is to destroy the Locusts, a mysterious and vicious colony of creatures that plague their once peaceful planet. Able to emerge at any moment from a labyrinth of underground tunnels, the Locusts are quickly able to devastate many of the ...

The first thing I notest when I had started up the game was its amazing graphics, best I had ever seen. As soon as I started playing I was hooked, I was not out of my room for 2 days. My eyes are blurry, my head is whoozy, and my ears hear the sound of gunfire when I sleep at night. Why? Because I've been playing Gears of War four nights in a row. So far, I've beaten the game twice and my opinion is that Gears is an addictive, intense, and fun experience that will keep you locking, loading, and unloading 'til the wee hours of the morning. I had my doubts. For all the hype, it just didn't occur to me why Gears was getting so much praise from the gameplay footage I watched ...

It's beyond solid, it's a great game that anyone should play, no matter how much they like shooters or not.First things first, a shooter is a shooter, so you shoot things, it's not nice and it's not pretty; and so isn't this game, unless you think of pretty as being something pretty amazing or pretty good. If there is only 1 game on the xbox 360 that you own it must be GOW! I have spent countless hours annihilating the locust horde. My first impression of the game was that it looked superb. The graphics on the game are amazing with the dark lighting and ruined buildings giving the game a very eerie look that does border on the side of horror. The characters look great and the voice acting is amazing with Marcus Fenix not saying very much, Baird constantly being negative and the Cole-train mouthing...

Gears of War is 2006's bloody third person shooter. The name of the game in Epic's masterpiece is cover. Take cover using A. From there lean out to the side and shoot guys with precision, or blindfire. You slide around cover (which is practically anything in Gears) fill guys up with lead and make a mess of blood. Duck after taking some damage, heal up quickly, and reload. Now reloading in Gears is special, since clicking RB to start the reload and clicking again when the 2 lines are aligned incr...

    Best 360 Game EVER! 0

When "Gears of War" was first shown at E3, it blew many people away with its superb graphics, but a question that came to mind was if it would live up to the hype. The answer is yes! Gears of War is a third person shooter from Epic Games. The game lacks a compelling story, but that dosen't matter because you will barely pay attention to it due to the excellent gameplay. What Gears of War lacks is a good story, and a lot of the time you will get confused on what is going on. Apparently there ha...

Cogs of the machinery This early current-gen game is mighty impressive, doing most things correctly. The graphics are detailed and give you a bloody, gritty, high-def experience. The game mechanics work well, especially the Active Reload system making reloading a tactical bonus game instead of a game-interrupting chore. The "cover-hugging" sometimes messes your flow up, leaving you stuck in the open, leading to some cheap deaths. However, a generous auto-save system with plenty of checkpoints gu...

Gears of War did for the Xbox 360 what Halo did for the original Xbox, put it on the map. It promised to be a flagship action game for the console and provide the best reason to buy the Xbox 360, but it did so much more than that.
