Games that feature co-operative play for 4 players.
Anytime an ally comes in to help you in any way. This mechanic is most common in fighting games.
Bosses are enemies that fight you at the end of a level or at a significant point in the story.
A boss fight is a culminating challenge that pits the player against one or more enemies representing a greater threat and/or difficulty than those previously faced. These scenarios typically feature unique antagonists.
Sometimes, rather than building a character model from scratch, a developer will sometimes use a real person as a template and use his or her physical attributes to create a similar character model to be used in their video game. In some cases that real reason will appear as themselves in games.
Francis is playable in Left 4 Dead, which focuses almost entirely on co-operative play.
First-Person is a vantage point that attempts to simulate looking through a game character's eyes. It is most commonly found in first-person shooters, racing games, and visual novels, and to a lesser extent in other genres, such as RPGs, 3D platformers, and adventure games.
One of the two main factions in the world of Azeroth. The counter part to the Alliance, and led by Warchief Garrosh Hellscream.
A concept in a game where the playable character can't run out of ammo, and doesn't need to pick up/buy ammo. In some cases, you still have to reload your weapon, but you will still have an endless amount of magazines.
An effect or ability that pushes an object or person away. Often found in, but not limited to, explosive weapons.
A moment in a game in which the player is faced with overwhelming odds, designed to be unbeatable by conventional means, but in which the player is encouraged to continue to fight anyway.
From Beat-em-ups to fighting games to modern FPS, one dude hitting another has made an enjoyable pastime.
When the President wants to go for a burger, you know that all your cake is a lie.
An opponent that typically appears around the halfway point in a level. Mini-Bosses are more formidable than the average opponent, though normally not as tough as the end-level Boss.
Many games that take place in dark areas provide the player with a flashlight. If they are going for realism, then the position of the beam depends on the position of the character's arms. This means that the beam does not point straight forward while the character reloads their weapon.
Some game modes don't allow the player to respawn once killed, forcing them to think strategically and to try to stay alive.
Any character you can control in a game is a Player Character (PC), as opposed to a non-player character (NPC), which is a character that can only be controlled by the game.
Reloading is the action of replacing the ammunition magazine inside a gun. It adds a touch of realism to most modern shooters, and a certain amount of tension when a player is forced to reload while under fire.
Respawning is when a player or NPC dies and then reappears moments later - usually in a predetermined location or group of locations - while the game continues.
Survival is a concept that signifies that the player's life is constantly in jeopardy.
A visual obstruction is an extra layer added to the player's viewpoint. Most common in first person games to add to the notion that you are looking through a character's eyes. Obstructions include blood, water and ice crystals.
