    Overview

    FOXHOUND
    FOXHOUND
FOXHOUND is a group of elite soldiers that was originally founded by Big Boss in the Metal Gear franchise. With the exception of Metal Gear Solid 3 and Portable Ops (The group was simply called FOX before Big Boss left to start FOXHOUND), it has appeared in some shape or form in all the games that follow the canon.

    Metal Gear/Metal Gear 2

In Metal Gear, Solid Snake was a field operative of FOXHOUND along with Gray Fox. He was a part of the group during Big Boss' betrayal and for a while after Roy Campbell's usurpation during Metal Gear 2. Solid Snake and Roy Campbell both went into retirement after Metal Gear 2 .

    Metal Gear Solid

In Metal Gear Solid, FOXHOUND turns into a rogue terrorist unit and has taken control of Shadow Moses Island under the command of Liquid Snake. FOXHOUND serves as the bulk of the game's bosses.

Liquid Snake is the leader of FOXHOUND. He is a clone of Big Boss and brother to Metal Gear Solid Protagonist, Solid Snake.  Liquid appears as a boss 3 time in Metal Gear Solid; first in the Hind-D, second in Metal Gear Rex and last in a one-on-one, hand-to-hand duel with Solid Snake on top of the wreckage of Metal Gear Rex.

    Revolver Ocelot

Revolver Ocelot, also known as Shalashaska, is a gun master as well as a torture expert.  In Metal Gear Solid you face him twice; first in a room wired with C4 and second in a button-mashing torture sequence.

    Vulcan Raven

Vulcan Raven is a shamanistic Inuit man wielding a giant machine gun. He occurs in two boss fights during the game. The first time, he has found in a tank while the second time, he and Snake fight one-on-one in a warehouse.

    Psycho Mantis

Psycho Mantis is a psychic expert with telekinetic powers. He employs various objects in the room as projectiles which he throws at you by using telekinesis. He also manages to read your mind and distort your game play. Psycho Mantis is known to break the fourth wall.

    Sniper Wolf

Sniper Wolf is a beautiful and deadly sharpshooter. She is fought twice in the game in a standard sniper duel. The first encounter, it is right after she shot Meryl and severely wounded her.

    Decoy Octopus

Decoy Octopus is a master of disguise. He is the only member of FOXHOUND in the game who you do not fight. Instead, he disguises himself as the DARPA Chief and has a meeting with Snake. He dies from FOXDIE.

    Legacy (post-Metal Gear Solid)

    Metal Gear Solid 2

In Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Raiden is led to believe that he was sent to Big Shell under the command of a unit called FOXHOUND.  When in reality, he is unaware that it disbanded after the events of Metal Gear Solid and he is being duped by the Colonel AI.

    Metal Gear Solid 4

In Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Meryl and her squad called Rat Patrol 01 all wear the FOXHOUND emblem for nostalgic reasons as her father(Roy Campbell) and Snake were once members.  In addition to that, the Beauty & the Beast unit (The game's featured 'boss group') all bear a very strong resemblance to the members of FOXHOUND from Metal Gear Solid. Their names are also throwbacks that allude to each of the members: Laughing Octopus to Decoy Octopus, Raging Raven to Vulcan Raven, Crying Wolf to Sniper Wolf and Screaming Mantis to Psycho Mantis.
