Giantbombs own Matt Rorie

In the last edition of Jar Time, @Jeff stated that he would like Giantbomb - in time - to expand its staff. Not just anyone will do of course, and Jeff mentions a set of criteria that a new member of the Giantbomb family would have to live up to.

Matt Rorie - Giantbombs Golden Duder and currently free agent - checks all the boxes. Is it just me, or does hiring Matt asap seem like a no brainer?

I agree. They should hire Matt right away. We already know he's a great fit and the fans love him - but I'm sure Jeff is aware of all of that, there has to be other factors, maybe Matt does not want the job, who knows. I think he would have been hired already if it was this simple.

It sounds like he was there for a job interview a couple weeks ago, during the TrackMania TNT.

I infer this by him being in the building, and him saying something about not wanting to announce what he was up to "before his eggs had hatched"

EDIT: I am not saying he was interviewing for GiantBomb.

Sure, there's a lot of unknowns. I'm aware. But holy shit it'd be awesome to have that dude on staff.

I hope so, though I think his heart is still with movies. I think hiring Matt Kessler full time is a no brainer if they want some young blood there.

I would love it. I miss Rorie since the breaking of Whiskey Media. He was the sole reason I went to Screened.

Hopefully, @papercut uses this as an excuse to whip up some Rorie cartoon portraits. Hopefully, the puppies scale, too (1 star=1 puppy, 2 stars=2 puppies, etc.).

You know who else would be awesome to have on staff.

Giant Bomb is definitely hurting for a movie tie-in video game expert. Though that would be mean to a duder as awesome as Rorie.

They need to clone Ryan and Vinny, so Ryan can make some TANG videos and Vinny can double the amount of Vinny.

not necessarily; Alex was half GB and half screened, where as Rorie was maybe 5-10% GB

I believe he has said before that he would prefer being able to keep working with movies, and not go back to writing about video games. That being said, I love Rorie to death and would love to see more of him anywhere really, and it's totally possible he has changed his view on this.

@Animasta: I meant that since he's such good friends with everybody at GB, has worked with them before, and generally is a fit. I'm sure if he wanted to be a new staff member there they would find a space for him.

I think the new corporate overlords would frown upon the rampant sexual harassment that happens when Ryan Davis gets near Matt Rorie.

I'd love to see him at Giant Bomb but if he finally found a job elsewhere then that's great too.

This would make me more than happy... I can only hope. I feel like Matt is the kid who ran away from home, and GB should open their arms with a warm embrace. He is great on camera and offers a different insight.

I think it may have been that they had to see where there assets were going to be appropriated with CBSi. Now that they're settled, CBSi may have given them the go ahead now to hire on new people. Maybe Rorie was always on standby. Just my two cents

I like Matt Rorie in really small doses.

I asked Rorie this question after he left Screened. His response was something like "I wouldn't mind that, we'll see what happens"

And when we showed up on the TrackMania TNT a month or 2 ago, someone mentioned he was there at the GameSpot offices for an interview or something..

I think they need a new video editor / camera guy more than another "personality" and I am sure Rorie would agree his writing is not his strongest attribute - but sure - give him a job. If nothing else GB should have a budget for freelancers to beef up the written feature content a little and no reason some of that can't go to Rorie.

It is also worth noting that huge corps like CBS have a procedure for hiring. If GB does get the money for a new staffer I doubt Jeff will be allowed to just employ his friend because he feels sorry that Screened didn't work out. Not that a pro like Jeff would pity hire anyway. Nothing to stop Rorie for applying and interviewing for any job that does become available though. He is clearly a fan favourite.

I kind know what you mean but I think his problem at Screened - rambling on podcasts, singing, etc - was more that he was forced in to the role or host and so he tried too hard. Same could be said of Alex. When it was just one or the two of them they can be a bit much but as part of a bigger team they can be more natural.

his writing is better than most of the GB crew actually, so I don't think so.

I love Matt Rorie as much as anyone but none of us know what he wants to do. Maybe they offered him a job and he turned it down. Maybe he wants to do something different. I would be overjoyed if Rorie joined the staff but it's not as simple as just "HIRE HIM NOW."
