Giant Bomb vs. The Holiday Snatchers, Part I
It was a peaceful day in Bombville, a day like any other. A festive holiday mood was felt in the Modcave as the Mods were happily at work, banning trolls and rejecting Wiki submissions. Little did they know that they faced a grave threat, an insidious plan already underway...
BoG and Clint were walking down Rainbow Road, munching on hamburgers. “So, yeah,” Clint said, “You should see the setup Tom has this year. Glowing icicles, fiberoptic snowflakes, a techno remix of the Ukranian Bell Carol in the background... You’ll flip when you see it.” BoG stopped in his tracks. “Ummm, Clint... are you sure you’re not the one who’s flipped?” Clint looked back at him. “What do you mean?” BoG pointed towards a shop off the side of the road. “There’s Tom’s place right there... and it looks the same as it always does.” Clint jogged off towards the shop, with BoG right behind him, and approached the little raccoon sweeping dirt out the front door. “Tom! Tom! What happened to all of your decorations?” Tom looked up at the two burger-bearing mods. “Well, slacker, I just decided that they looked silly and I didn’t want them in front of my store anymore. Honestly, I can’t think of what possessed me to put them up in the first place, slacker. By the way, aren’t you two late with your monthly payments, slacker?” BoG and Clint looked at each other, and started backing away. “We’ll... get back with you,” they said in unison.
NuclearWinter held the phone to his ear as he typed. “Yeah, we’ve been getting reports of this all day, Clint. ... No, we don’t have any idea what’s going on, but decorations keep going down all over Bombville, and nobody really seems to care. It’s like it’s not even the holidays anymore! ... All right, see what you can find out, then report back. Talk to you later.” Nuke put the phone on the cradle and pulled up his e-mail. He nearly spit his hot chocolate at the screen when he saw the newest message...
“DO NOT BOTHER RESISTING US. ALL HOLIDAYS IN BOMBVILLE WILL BE CRUSHED. TODAY IT MAY JUST BE THE DECORATIONS, BUT BY JANUARY, ALL MEMORY OF THE HOLIDAYS WILL BE WIPED AWAY. YOU HAVE NO HOPE OF STOPPING US. SIGNED, THE HOLIDAY SNATCHERS.”
“This is terrible! What are we going to do?” Axersia gave voice to the thought on everyone’s minds. “Without the holidays, just think... all the joy, all the festivity, all the camaraderie... gone!” Hamz looked grim. “That’s not the worst of it. Without the winter holidays... there won’t be any winter holiday video game releases.” A collective gasp went up from the group. “We can’t permit this! What are we going to do, Hamz?” “We have to reverse the damage, Ax. We’ve got to find a way to replace all the decorations that have been taken down! We can’t let the holidays be forgotten...
...we must stop the Holiday Snatchers!”
