Old podcasts not downloading

Was hankering for some Ryan Davis era bombcasts tonight and when I went to download it 404s. Tried it with a beastcast episode too and no dice? Don't know if it's been reported so I thought I would mention it.

I have the same issue, was listening to some old beastcasts but most episodes give me an error. Some still work tho.

Beastcast episode 3,4,5,6,9,10,11,12,13,14 don’t work. But episode 7,8 do

I just checked and can confirm that those episodes won't download for me either. I checked on Apple Podcasts and Overcast.

2-15-2011, 9-22-2009, 3-20-2012, Bombcast #618, Goty 2013 day 5, and 9-11-2012 to name a few, sorry for the late response.

Majority don't load for me either. Can't load on any service or download from the main site. I get this error.

@zombiepie: This has been mentioned to the engineers and a ticket has been logged. It is a higher priority but if it takes a little bit longer I'll give it a push.

So I noticed this and have done some initial work on it. I originally noticed this when I got to a podcast from the beginning of 2012 and it just didn't work. I tried using an RSS feed downloader to download the podcast for personal archival and noticed that about half of the podcasts between 2008 and 2016 didn't download. Below is a half in progress list so the formatting is a bit odd but here is a list of the podcasts that dont download from the RSS. For the record I have only gone through the 2008 and 2009 so I cant speak to which episodes from later can or cannot be downloadable. Hope this helps

Ok so this is interesting. I was listening to the original Bombcasts for a bit last month. About 3-4 weeks ago, the ones on there from 2008 were available and downloaded normally on the podcast feed. I just went back and tried to redownload them and now they don't download or work using podcast apps. So it's definitely something that's changed in the last few weeks that is causing issues.

@ben_h: Thats how this started for me. I started from the beginning a few months ago as background noise while working and such. I had just just got to the start of 2012 and the episode wouldnt load. I resubbed on pocketcasts and no dice, I used the free RSS feed from the site same issue, and the premium feed for the early years is inconsistent. I do know that spotify has the episodes though.

A +1 from me for this issue. Of the entire run of Bombcast episodes from 2010, I was only able to successfully download 12.

Any updates on this?

These all seem broken again as of about 4-5 days ago. A few examples are 01-01-2013 and 11-27-2012. Almost all seem broken around this time though.

@metal_mills: I'm pretty sure the website refresh that fixed videos also fixed podcasts, but could you verify if that's the case on your end?

Beastcasts are also not downloading. I tried downloading 221 through 225. None of them worked.

EDIT: I’m talking about the RSS feed, just to be clear.

I'm also having issues with podcasts, specifically the Bombcast and Beastcast. The Voicemail Dump Truck and All Systems Goku seem to be working fine. The app that I use, Downcast on iOS, shows two URLs for podcasts. One is a link to the post on the website (i.e. https://www.giantbomb.com/shows/all-systems-goku-22/2970-15840/free-podcast), the other is a link directly to the audio file (i.e. https://giantbomb.com/podcasts/download/2478/asg22-10-08-2018-0222539615.mp3).

However, the Bombcast and Beastcast audio link to different domains, such as this awful URL that I cut down significantly in length (https://mgln.ai/e/89/claritaspod.com/measure/verifi.podscribe.com/rss/p/arttrk.com/p/KSTA5/chrt.fm...). That podcast in particular is Bombcast 775 on 2/7/23, which does not play. The next podcast, Bombcast 776 on 2/14/23 works fine. The URL for that one is less nightmarish (https://pds.cdnstream1.com/p/kast/giant-bombcast/giant-bombcast-776-mario-81112d/audio.mp3)

Hopefully this information helps troubleshooting in some way. Apologies for the horribly formatted post.

Any luck on this? Old bombcast and Beastcast are down... Over a month and no solution?

The old RSS feed broke for me earlier this month but found the Spotify feed somehow works and lets me download old episodes. That still stinks though since I been using that RSS feed for over a decade now.

How has it been so long without any updates? It’s over a month now. I feel like this didn’t happen when Rorie was around.

It’s pretty obvious Fandom doesn’t care about the legacy content.

just wanted to say that i am still having this problem. haven't been able to listen to the giant beastcast for like a month. would love to get an update on when a solution is likely to be coming and whether this is important to those currently in charge.

Fandom doesn’t care. And no, zombiepie, the closing of a politics forum on gamefaqs is not an explanation for this dismissive attitude by them.

It's clear they don't care about the history of Giantbomb. I'm just glad there's people out there doing the good work of preserving classic GB content.

Hey, I can confirm we do care. I meet with the engineers bi-weekly about this very subject and discussed it several times with the engineering manager. I'm not an engineer myself so all I can do is advocate for these issues to be worked on and I do that every chance I get. I do know it is a priority for them but they're a limited team.

I am also having this issue. Only episodes 95 and 96 of the Beastcast would download for me. No issues at all with Bombcast. I'm using Podcast Addict.

Had a hankering for some nostalgia and I can't download old beastcast content either. Tried episodes 1 through 10 with no luck. I'm using the apple podcast app, and I get a "Unable to Download Podcast "The giant beastcast episode 0X" cannot be downloaded. Please try again later" message. Tried several times over a week with no luck.

You can use this feed instead of the official one that is currently still broken.

I was going through old episodes of the bombcast (currently at 2009) and within the past week or so it seems a lot of episodes have disappeared from the feed? The next available episode is august 10th 2010, when the previous one in the feed is January 20th 2009. I am using Overcast on iOS if that makes any difference. Hope this can be fixed soon.

I see this on both Overcast and Spotify.

Old podcasts missing. Any word?

On the Discord Bakalar has stated that he saved the entire podcast archive, including legacy podcasts like the Beastcast. The site and the supporting podcast clients are likely going to have a feed refresh today/Monday or Tuesday.

Looks like the Beastcast feed is fixed. This fix will likely cause some of you to get updates saying you have 100+ new podcasts as they had to be resent. The good news is that it works and it will be attempted with the rest of the older pods soon.

Beastcast should be completely fixed where you listen to your podcasts.

The episodes didn't automatically show up on my feed at first but I just had to re-sub to the RSS on my app and now it's back! Hell ya

I saw you say that on Discord, but can you remind me if things are good with just the Beastcast or all podcasts?

@zombiepie: I just checked my Bombcast Premium feed and it says there are 643 episodes. I tried resubbing but no change. I am currently at work so I don't have the ability to see which episodes are missing currently.

Edit: I did a quick once-over and other shows like All Systems Goku and Jeff Jeff's seem to be good. Just Bombcast seems a little short at the moment.

Most of the 2008, 2009 and 2010 podcasts on the Bombcast feed are still missing.

@khaidu: Yeah, similar to what was done with The Beastcast, a manual resend or RSS Feed refresh is coming. With the Bombcast, Bakalar said they will start with shows before 2014, but even then it's gonna take some time because there is a lot of content. So, expect to see updates on pod apps that claim you have hundreds of unlistened episodes.

seemed like the issue was fixed for a bit but the beastcast is still spotty. up to 91 downloads and then 92–94 fails. 95 and 96 download and then 97 and 98 fail. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
