do U think the Australian national team will do well in 2010 World Cup in South Africa?...in 2006 World Cup didn't do that well, although they did tie the eventual champion Italy 1-1, but US didn't qualify for the final 16. I think the furthest the US men's team has gone is quarterfinals...but US women have won WOrld CUps and championships
Mate the Socceroos performance in 2006 was amazing. We beat Argentina to qualify in the first place for the first time since the 70s. Then there was that awesome comeback in the last minutes of the game against Japan when we should never have been down. Sure the draw with Croatia was a little disapointing but they arent exactly push overs. We lost to Brazil (duh!) and went on to get knocked out by the eventual champions in Italy. Also Cahills first goal against Japan was the first time Australia has ever put one into the net in the World Cup. What they did in 2006 did so much for the sport in this country too. The National Soccer League had gone broke now we have the A League which seems to be stable with the competition expanding out to include two more teams over the next few years. And we are contending to host the 2018 and 2022 cups which wouldnt have been dreamt of before Germany. I am so glad we did that in 2006 proving we could qualify in the South American region before moving into the Asian region from now which should be a lot easier for us. Our recent Asia Cup campaign was pretty poor but pur qualification games for the 2010 cup is going pretty well though.
For World Cup you compete as a nation, not individual cities. If it were to happen Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane would be walk up starters to host matches. Perth would be in line IF the state government would finally get their shit together an finally start plans to get the stadium this city badly needs and the stadium they have been talking about and putting enquiries into for years now as Subiaco Oval doesnt meet FIFAs standards of a 60 odd thousdand seat stadium. The other capitals: Canberra, Adelaide, Darwin and Hobart have no chance unless their own state governments decide to do something to get in on the action. It would not be out of the realm of possibilty that we would have some sort of co-host deal to have New Zealand to host one of the pools or something.
oh I didn't know you entered as a nation...well, Sydney got to host the Olympics, I bet that was exciting, they should host a World Cup..I bet a lot of Australians love what we call soccer for a long time, being a UK commonwealth
is Australian Rules Football what we Americans call football (American football) but with Australian rules for that game? Canada has their own rules for American football too (they call it Canadian football, hehe)...when I lived in Mexico, they have their own version of football too, but it's not very popular, except in northern Mexico which has more influence from USA
OK, I'm looking at youtube videos now...over here AFL means Arena Football League, it's like indoor American football and played differently than NFL football..it's past 2am here, and I should get to bed soon
Manchester United. When I grew up they were the best team in the world and they're still among the best.
