    Overview

Elite: The New Kind is a clone of "Elite" programmed in C through reversed engineering of the original by Christian Pinder in the late nineties done as a learning experience in programming. The game was released to much acclaim within fan circles and was quickly ported to a variety of platforms including Linux, Game Boy Advance and Atari ST. Distribution of the title was cancelled in 2003 after David Braben (one of the original developers) requested that Pinder cease producing the title.

Ian Bell, the other developer of the original Elite did however support the project, and offered it for download on his personal website after the project's original website had been taken down.
