Bethesda gave a proof of life statement release date for Starfield this morning via a short trailer and an equal amount of Todd talking at the camera: Additionally, Bethesda is hosting a Starfield Direct on June 11th, 2023. I don't have much to say on the content of the trailer, but it seems like they needed a fair amount of extra time to make the game (hopefully) be in a complete state. At thi...

Note: The following article contains major spoilers for Unpacking. We don't realise the absurd volume of possessions we own until we move, when we have to pull every shirt from its hanger and kitchen utensil from its drawer and ship them off somewhere new. On the other side of that move, we're faced with a daunting forest of boxes, one that seems so much larger than our storage space. But then...

We're all about our creature comforts on Indie Game of the Week, or mine specifically, but you know one video game genre I love that rarely gets a look-in at any level of game development? Photography. Photo modes in open-world games like Ghost of Tsushima certainly allow us to explore our inner-Annie Leibovitzes (Leibovitzii?) if we need a creative break from running around collecting map icon...

The new cover of 2001 Nights’ volume 1 out of 3 in Japan featuring Hannah Robinson and her unnamed husband. The Robinsons’ stories would later be lifted wholesale by 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Waypoints in print This is a Hideo Kojima adjacent book report since I would never have known this comic without reading an article by that snake oil salesman. The book with yellow cover pictured above was...

An explanation of what I'm doing here can be found in my introduction post . Last week we looked at Rise 2: Resurrection, NBA Live 96, NBA ShootOut, and Panzer General . And last Friday we continued through the 3DO's 1993 catalog when we looked at F atty Bear's Birthday Surprise, Fatty Bear's Fun Pack, Lemmings, Putt-Putt Joins the Parade, and Shelley Duvall's It's a Bird's Life . This time we'...

With the new console generation coming into full swing, I've recently been asking myself a myriad of questions regarding the significant lack of Grand Theft Auto contenders within the last decade. Let's take a look at some urban-themed, open-world franchises - new and old - to see what went wrong and where they could go next. Back in the day there was a considerable group of people against so-c...

Not my screenshot, and not from the DLC, but a reminder that this game looks pretty neat! I like The Outer Worlds . Hell, I ranked it #4 on my 2019 Game of the Year list , and I stand by it. But when the DLC was released in September 2020 ( Peril on Gorgon ) and March 2021 ( Murder on Eridanos ), I didn’t bother checking either of them out. In the case of the former, Hades had just come out and...

After watching the huge Double Fine documentary about Psychonauts 2 , I wanted to go back and watch the Broken Age one again. My memory no longer exists. I feel like I now have intimate knowledge of the development studio (I don't) , especially since both documentaries constantly reference earlier footage. Those callbacks also established a history that I found increasingly bizarre. Yet, no one...

Inventors often have new ideas for inventions that come to them while they're relaxing or sleeping. Those ideas may be a flash in the pan, or they may take years to develop and refine. When you have an idea for an invention, it is important to focus on your target market. That means doing some research on your target market and determining whether there is a need for the product you're thinking...

In some deep corner of my brain there's a wheel of fortune with four quadrants that starts spinning whenever I sit down to assess what to cover here next. On the four quadrants are written: RPG throwback, 3D platformer, explormer, and adventure game. I have a type, or four in this case, and suffice it to say this week I'm once again firmly inside my wheelhouse after booting up New Super Lucky's...

Introduction They certainly don't have the free game showstoppers Steam and Epic have, but GOG has some gems. As I jump back into my coverage of questionable adventure games in 2023, I have started to experience an issue. While I have no problems playing adventure games or streaming them, I'm increasingly struggling to find games that warrant my standard coverage style. I might be the only pers...

An explanation of what's going on here can be found in the intro post . Earlier this week, we looked at the PS1 games Rise 2: Resurrection, NBA Live 96, NBA ShootOut , and Panzer General . Last time in this series, we looked at our first batch of titles that released on the 3DO in 1993, Battle Chess, Crime Patrol, Dragon's Lair, and Escape From Monster Manor . Now, we're going to put the 3DO to...

I personally consider this cover quite spoilery since it visualizes the final dense science fictional set-piece in the book, a scene explains everything and answers every question. (Full spoiler for a book titled the Three-body Problem. Though due to more or less unorganized nature of the text behind, one might have to read that book to understand the bloody thing.) It can be said that this is...

Here we are at the big inhale, before the console really steps into the spotlight. And by an astonishing coincidence, the occasion aligns with another specific perversion of mine. The next few entries in this thing will be a little more substantial. My work situation is very much Not Normal yet, and I don't have a great idea of if/when that will happen for me again. This might formally become a...

In a moment of FOMO-induced delirium back in 2017, I desperately secured a preorder for the Super NES Classic Edition. It's a novelty miniaturized console with 21 SNES games built-in. I liked the thing quite a lot, but the fact that it’s not currently in my house should say something about its longevity. Nevertheless, something was eating at me recently. I have enjoyed most of the console’s mus...

Note: The following article contains major spoilers for Off-Peak. Video games are full of painstakingly painted and sculpted visual art that we never truly look at. There are so many instances where we get these gorgeous, detailed sprites or 3D models served to us that we can't zoom in on, that artists shove into the background, or that we blow right past. Cosmo D's Off-Peak is a game that give...

I Let Reddit Inform Two Of My Video Game Choices in 2023 Well, this certainly is something you don't expect to get coverage on Giant Bomb. Let's address the skeleton in the closet before discussing a feverish and bizarre video game. Since college, I have been an almost daily user of Reddit. Now, before you ask for my username or aim to use this to discredit everything I have contributed to this...

I spent the first fifteen minutes of Prodeus trying to figure out how to play as the penguin or TwinBee, but I think something got lost in translation somewhere. Prodeus is a traditional-style FPS (or "boomer shooter" in today's parlance) and follows a similar evolutionary path of the 2016 Doom reboot, attempting to find a way to modernize 1993 Doom and its ilk for today's audience with a certa...

It’s time to finish my plate. I figured before I started my next dubious streaming project*, I might as well clean up The Tower of Dubious Horror Games. If you'd like to find stream VODs of all of my playthroughs of these games, consider checking out my youtubes Cou...
